I’m on this trail a lot for running, walking and biking. It’s fantastic. I just wish the city would be more consistent with bathroom quality and placement, and that they’d open them earlier in the mornings for early-rising runners.

on Lake Sylvan Trail

Love this lake, very easy trail. When visiting Custer state park, we always stop and walk the lake

Great walk-in fishing for trout. Usually not crowded.

Paved hiking/bicycle path. Extremely easy. Parts were flooded. BUG SPRAY lots of mosquitos, prob due to so much standing water.

Great family hike. Alot of fun crossing the creek, great way to stay cool.

This is a very beautiful area and the trail is fairly easy (but not suited for baby strollers). The lake, the waterfall, and the rocks make it interesting. A very cool place!

The end loop does NOT exist. Stay to the right. We were trying to find the trail for an hour and were in the middle of a timber field. Learn from our mistake. This is a true out and back only.

Too short and crowded but it’s beautiful and I saw a yellow-bellied marmot! I wouldn’t make this a destination hike but if you’re in the area and want to get in a quick hike, its worth it

Awesome Trail. One of my favorite trails in the 15 states I have cycled in. Stunning parks, one after another on the southern portion. Since I don’t see anyway to post pictures, I will post them to my site, cyclingthe50.com.

Fun little trail!

Fun hike with my son again... Slight upgrade most of the way in... I am finding just about every hike with my GSD that is graded as “Easy” I am going to upgrade to “Moderate” in my book! :)
Because every time we get to those water/rock crossings they don’t know take it easy... They seem to know their route long b4 they get there. And boom they’re gone! :)
I definitely need a good pair of hiking boots however if I’m good keep hiking! Our 3.8 hike wound up being 4.2. Fun...Fun!

Fun trail crossing the creek on beams many times. Great with the family.

Had a great hike with my son! Easy hike! Took only one GSD with us this time... Made it easier for my son... Beautiful weather in the low 60’s... Couldn’t ask for better conditions... 2.8 miles this time... Really enjoying hiking... Wish I had started this years ago... We’re doing it now so I guess that’s what matters the most...

Great time! Had four 32oz jugs of water for 3 people and it wasn’t enough! Bring lots of water! Reminder to self again: Even with wife can only take one GSD! Apparently she can’t handle either one on more than a 2 mile hike!

Love it. Very easy beautiful walk.

great little cool down trail after tackling the cathedral Spires and little devils tower. great views of the lake all the way around

Good hike with the kids... about 90% I would consider an “easy” hike.... the other involved hopping rocks and dealing with traveling along the creek and hurtling logs over the paths

There are several drop offs and slippery rocks on this trail, as a mom of a 6 year old, it made me nervous. But it was a beautiful and short hike.

Very fun hike to do! The water crossings are a little intimidating with a toddler in structured carrier, but is definitely doable. There are many beautiful spots to stop and lots of wildlife! We were not able to finish as the crossing towards the end (logs included) were just too much to do.

I love this trail. It is an easy, but beautiful trail with many stream crossings. My dog loves it as well.

Sylvan is my favorite part of the hills. This hike is great to take with kids and get a great view of all the scenery. If you go during a hot day, you can finish the hike with a dip in the lake.

This is a five star trail simply for the scenery. Sylvan Lake is absolutely gorgeous. Very simple walk/hike. Anyone in relatively decent health can complete this trail.

Love hiking in this area

Fun little treasure tucked in the very NW corner of Iowa. Excluding some cool geologic formations, nothing in Gitchie will blow you away. Depending if the grounds have been maintained you might run into some graffiti.
