We went up 9, got to the top as a thunderstorm hit! We made it down in record time, 1:12! It was a beautiful hike on the way up, and the view from the top is breathtaking.

on Lake Sylvan Trail

Love this lake, very easy trail. When visiting Custer state park, we always stop and walk the lake

Did this with kids aged 10, 8, and 4. Had to help the 4 year old, but the other two did it on their own. Great view from the old tower at the top. Took about 4 hours round trip. Only downside was the amount of mud at some parts of the trail. A few places were tricky to get around.

Hiking up #9 was great, however I would not advise to take #7 down without a map. I was told to take that trail down, which was very muddy and got me lost. Unless you have a map and it is an extremely sunny day, I’d advise you to stick to #9!

This is a very beautiful area and the trail is fairly easy (but not suited for baby strollers). The lake, the waterfall, and the rocks make it interesting. A very cool place!

Hiked this as a loop with Centennial and really enjoyed it. Lots of wildlife.

fantastic hike! great scenery and the reward of the views and the old fire watch tower at the top made the incline well worth it! pack water and take snacks and enjoy some time exploring at the tower before heading back down.

Nice short trail With big views, wildflowers and ripe raspberries

Too short and crowded but it’s beautiful and I saw a yellow-bellied marmot! I wouldn’t make this a destination hike but if you’re in the area and want to get in a quick hike, its worth it

Love it. Very easy beautiful walk.

Love this hike! So pretty and relaxing! Very dog friendly!

Sylvan is my favorite part of the hills. This hike is great to take with kids and get a great view of all the scenery. If you go during a hot day, you can finish the hike with a dip in the lake.

This is a five star trail simply for the scenery. Sylvan Lake is absolutely gorgeous. Very simple walk/hike. Anyone in relatively decent health can complete this trail.

one of my favorite hikes in the hills. good afternoon hike with wonderful views and a great workout. i do it several times a year. takes about 3.5 hours

This is a great trail. Moderately challenging with stunning views. Nice length if you want a good half day workout.

An easy walk, great for kids. Brought our 2 dogs and they loved it too!

Beautiful lake, beautiful scenery!!

Not super difficult, awesome 360 degree views at the peak and tons of space to walk around at the top

Easy and beautiful! Sylvan Lake is gorgeous!

Easy yet beautiful walk around the lake. North side of the lake was less groomed and harder for the older group but they made it. Damn 20$ to get in though.

This is a great warm up hike. It is short and sweet with great views. We got some amazing panoramas. You can see Badlands and Buffalo Gap from the top. It's a fairly good incline the whole way up, but no technical features. Great hike to finish up a great day in the wilderness!
