Explore the most popular waterfall trails in South Carolina with hand-curated trail maps and driving directions as well as detailed reviews and photos from hikers, campers and nature lovers like you.

Took the directions.. there is no trailhead, parking, and sign of a trail.

There are some well established camp sites right at the beginning of the trail, once I got past those it was complete solitude. Saw 3 people over 24 hours. Trail itself runs along the Chatooga and there are about 6 dispersed camping sites Allen g it’s banks. There aren’t any huge inclines/declines but plenty of fallen trees, washed out trails, etc to keep you on your toes. Would recommend it for those looking to get away from the crowded North Georgia areas.

It's a little steep but well worth the clime.

Nice hike to a beautiful waterfall. Enjoyed the scenery on the way also. This is not an easy hike, though. It should be rated as moderate.

Great workout and beautiful views! Highly recommended!!

Had a blast on the trail today with my wife, very easy ridding. Many spots are in the open sun so wear sunscreen like we didn’t XD

The kids loved this trail. Real hidden gem, even got to see a few bear tracks. One complaint, there is a cable crossing over one creek that stopped the four of us, mainly the four year old, from making it to the waterfall. Wouldn't have been a problem just wish it had been marked on the map. Other than that great trail.

This trail is steep, but very well maintained and Rainbow Falls was a great reward for my 11, 10, and 8 year old hiking companions.

This hike is amazing but it’s a tough one. We took some of our students from church. It’s tough and I would recommend not doing it if your out of shape. Do some small trails and build up. It whooped our tail but was amazing. It was raining so the view of terrible once we got up there but it was still decent. It’s strenuous but worth the trip if you can do it

Great trails. Fantastic scenery!

Great place to explore!

An extremely easy hike with a great scenic view the end.

Extremely easy hike with a great payoff at the end. A nice little beach area to camp or relax during a hot summer day. Highly recommended.

Make sure to visit all three levels of the falls. My dog and I took a quick dip in the lowest level and it was amazing! Very easy hike although the trails to the falls can be precarious.

Plan ahead for this one. I did not plan as well as I should and was caught off guard by the strenuous terrain. I did the whole 8.1 mile loop in 4.5 hrs which was rough. Definitely want to plan some longer stops along the way to relax and enjoy it a bit. Told my wife about it and now she wants to go back and try it, which we will probably do this fall after it cools off a bit.

Great trail if it were maintained. As of 6/10/18, there are A LOT of fallen trees across the trail that make this go from an Easy / Moderate trail to Difficult. Our 76 year old very experienced hiker Grandma made it through but it was difficult. As others said, you end at the top of the falls so not a huge view but pretty falls and nice rapids above the falls.

Good hike to beautiful views of the falls and mountains. Well worth the time.

Loved the rocks, the lake, and all the tree coverage. Would do again. Definitely

for the record High falls trail at Ralph J. Andrew's recreation park is located on pine creek rd in Glendale, North Carolina not Salem, South Carolina. This is the opposite entrance to the falls from High Falls trail. shorter out and back from this end.

Great hike and decent workout. The only bad thing i would say is that parking at Jones Gap sucks. Make sure you get there early or you will be waiting a long time for a parking spot.

Probably the best hike in the state of South Carolina. Some really cool spots off the beaten path if you know where to look. Make sure you get there early, it does get rather busy.

Had a great time on this trail! Not well marked. look for the gates and reference the map on this app. We navigated a bunch of downed trees and went through a fair share of spider webs, but the waterfall payoff was well worth it!!

Wonderful! The trail has it's ups and downs, but it's really beautiful all along the way. God's handiwork all around you. And then you get to the waterfall. Breathtakingly BEAUTIFUL. Stunning. Words do not do it justice. Do yourself a favor and seek out this lovely trail!

Great trail. The waterfall is beautiful. I'll be hiking it again soon.

Went with family. Nothing special on the way to the waterfall. Waterfall was great though! Don't know if I'd go back and do that one.

Amazing hike and the waterfall at the end is breathtaking, far exceeding my expectations. Well-marked trail in purple. Several very steep inclines but doable. It took me about 30 min to get in and 25 back. I’m under 30 and exercise daily and I was sweaty and pretty tired when I finished, so great little workout, too

Great trail, awesome hike, amazing waterfall.

This is a great workout - the way up really gets your heart rate going :) Trail is well maintained. Waterfalls are truly beautiful.

Awesome hike. Had an eight year old, six year old and a dog. Fun hike but lots of stairs on the way back up!
