From Hairy John's picnic area parking lot follow the orange blazed mid-state trail north. The trail ascends gradually for about .75 miles followed by a short steep, and rocky, ascent. At the ridge top the mid-state trail goes right at the junction of Hairy John's and Winkleblech trails. Turn left and follow the red blazed, formally blue blazed, Winkleblech trail along the ridge top with occasional views through the trees on both sides. The trail is somewhat overgrown but well blazed and easy to follow acroos the narrow ridgetop. After 1.7 miles arrive at Winkleblech Mountain Rd. with excellent views south and east. Go left on Winkleblech Mountain Rd. and after .8 miles arrive back at Hairy John's picnic area.Show more
