Short path but nice for brief hike in great forest setting. Western side of loop is mostly pine forest, but the eastern side along the Greenwood Spur trail is a really neat rhododendron tunnel/jungle with several stream/bridge crossings.

Nice trail. Good elevation. Must tie in side trails to get 7 miles in

Beautiful trail... but no reason at all to start on Whitehall Rd. (construction, no parking) unless you want to add 3 easy/nondescript miles to the route walking through suburbia/farmland and cornfields. Much better to start at the nice parking lot off of Rt. 45... and you can add on more mileage by doing some of the side trails if you're so inclined (Frog Hollow, Mountain Mist, MST, etc.). Gorgeous views though. Fun trail to hike.

Nice trail. Rocky and steep in some spots. Annoying students playing music out of their phones instead of headphones.

Really nice short trail with dense rhododendron patches, a few very steep sections and numerous options to lengthen the hike. Views fro Roman tower were dogged out this kirning, but probably nice on a clear day. Also several nice primitive campsites near the water.

Steep to start, great views, and a solid 2 hours.

Of the 8 or so posted scenic views only one is really worth it. That would be the first view if you take the counter clockwise route. It’s a good hike otherwise, moderate difficulty, well marked.

A little bit challenging, but the view is perfect.

fun hike!

Mossy mushroomy walk along creek, then up through drier ecosystems. Lovely walk along Bald Knob Ridge. Saw two rattlesnakes, so watch your dogs!

Nice trail but all up hill and then down. Frog hollow is a bit challenging with steep rocky climb to top. Huckleberry is just a loop. Trails given on app off loop do not exist and will get of course. Otherwise, a nice casual hike .

Beautiful well maintained trail through old growth hemlock trees and mountain laurel. Some bridges over streams. One of my favorite short hikes!

Another beautiful hike with a killer view at the top!

Amazing hike for the short distance. Perfect for after a day working in state college. I will definitely be sure to come back when the leaves are changing.

I started off by going up the steep way and it was worth it. The MST section was great with challenging aspects and great views, but it wasn't marked very well in some spots. The best views are on the road section. I had to rush through the end of the hike due to incoming storms, but I will definitely do the hike again so I can take my time with it.

This trail had some amazing views and wasn't too difficult. The section on the Mid State trail was Rocky and more difficult than expected.

The hike was def moderate and will get your heart rate elevated especially towards the higher elevations. The trail's mostly rocks on top of rocks so just watch your footing especially if you have ankle issues. The path is pretty clear and marked with blue or red blazes depending on what section of the trail you're on. I only need to use the app where another trail intersects to make sure I was going the right way. Only small sections were over grown but it wasnt terrible. I'm pretty sure I had 4 or 3g the entire time. Unfortunately the views weren't worth while because of the over growth.

I went with my 7 and 11 year old. There was one section that was a slightly steep with a lot of rocks. The kids had to go slow and it was a little challenging for them but they managed fine. Other than that, it wasn’t too difficult. Also, it was nice and cool despite the very hot day.

If you're in State College, you've got to hike Shingletown Gap. It's absolutely gorgeous and offers lots of different trails for whatever kind of difficulty you're feeling. I always bring my dog along and he loves to take a quick dip in the creek before continuing on.
