I did part of this as a day hike. Highway 30 to a mile south of I-76, out and back, about 10 miles each way. Trail is like most PA trails with a lot of small rocks to step on, over, and around. Only good view is on top of Beam Rocks. Not much elevation gain. Lots of shade. Several connector trails along the way in case you don’t want to do it all.

I hiked this section out-and-back as my first solo backpacking trip. It was lovely and there was plenty of stream crossings to get water. I went after multiple consecutive days of rain which means long stretches of the trail were flooded. (One part of the trail looked like a waterfall there was so much water streaming down it!). With all the rain and water in the highlands, I recommend gaiters! Beautiful trail. I hammock camped at the Turnpike shelter area. The group camping sites have plenty of space for multiple tents and enough trees to string up some hammocks. Highly recommend!

Awesome trail! Started in Seward and stopped at the turnpike shelters. One thing to note is that the hand pump at Rt. 31 shelter area needs to be pumped quite a few times to draw water. We walked out to Rt. 31 and got water at Wallops before realizing this.
