Steep inclines to kick off end of mile 1, start of mile 2 then a nice good trail.... until you start downhills - careful of those slippery rocks! Would totally do this trail again!

We hiked this trail last weekend counter clockwise. Great campsite approx. 7.5 mi. W of parking lot. It's a grueling climb after the trail heads S. on Yost. up to Rt. 144 xing. Lower end of Eddie Lick is quite overgrown with loose shale and steep drop off. Be careful. Plenty of water and campsites, but many portions are in need of maintenance and overgrown. Blazes are missing or too faded. we strayed off trail a few times, lucky we had GPS. Be prepared this is very secluded with no cell service. I would have given 4 stars if not for it's condition.

on Chuck Keiper Trail

I like to complete what I call "superhikes". It was my goal to complete the Chuck Keiper Trail in one day, completing both loops, but not the connector trail. This trail is very well marked. There are views if you are willing to go off of the main trail, but because of my goal of completing in one day, I only saw the view where I parked.

The trail mostly follows the following pattern: Descend a mile or two into a hollow, follow parallel to a stream on the side of the ridge. There is a considerable amount of sidehilling, which I found to be difficult due to the loose, damp soil. Steeply ascend out of the hollow and then descend down the next hollow.

Fortunately, there are many streams, so water is in plentiful supply.

I made the silly mistake of not taking the bottom part of my zip-off hiking pants. There is a LOT of stinging nettle plant in the trail, so my legs were irritated for most of the day.

I wanted to attempt this superhike near the solstice for more daylight, but my schedule did not allow for that.

I plan on returning someday to complete the connector trail and seeing some of the views.

I only did the western loop from Fisher fire road to Yost Run and out, and as much as I loved it, would still say it’s more than moderately difficult. Perhaps it was how wet the spring and early summer have been, but the steeper sections of trail were challenging due to uncertain footing and slippery conditions.
Still, HIGHLY recommended, but be well prepared.

Decided to finally try this trail. Parking is an issue, as I had to drive about a half-mile down the road toward South Renovo to find a spot, where there is a large pull off for another trial head. I should mention there is an initial, relatively steep descent down the bank after climbing over the guard rail, but it is only about 50 feet or so in length. I never really found any "trail" so to speak, rather I simply followed the ravine and traveled upstream. The walk was not difficult, though one does have to make many stream crossings along the way. The stream is rather small so it was not too much of an obstacle. Also, since i never really found any trail I never actually reached any ending before turning around. Looking at the map now I believe I took the ravine to the right (south) instead of left (east). Regardless, this was a truly beautiful hike. Very steep ravines were on either side interspersed with laurel patches. I saw quite a few deer and heard the loudest woodpecker I have ever encountered. I plan on going back after the plants start coming to life. Overall this is a very nice hike.

A beautiful PA mountain trail. A bit more rugged in spots than expected but very passable. I definitely recommend hiking boots/shoes, something with a sturdy sole for rocks. Not too much in the way of vistas but beautiful PA mountain forests. Careful of rattlesnakes sunny themselves. Saw two at the natural gas shallow well head. A great hike.

Great trail. We saw two raccoons, two rattlesnakes, two deer, and one orange salamander.

Beautiful mountain trail. Steeper than expected without much vista view when in full summer. But still pretty with all the flowers and fungi.

A nice trail over all, but very unkempt in certain areas. Some nice camp spots as well. Definitely enjoyed this trail.

The scenery is gorgeous. The bugs are pretty terrible in July, but that's hardly the trail's fault. The path does get difficult to follow towards the beginning of the switch-backs (it's easy to get off course). Also, it's only a 4.1 mile trail.

Beautiful, peaceful hike. Did not encounter one person on the trail. Bring walking sticks for the up and down. Loop is only 4 miles (not 7 miles as listed on app).

My family cabin is at the base of this trail and I have been hiking this I could walk! Trail is steep and slick most of the year due to springs. Rocks are treacherous in areas. Wildlife is abundant in area including coyotes, bear, porcupines, grouse, turkey and rattlesnakes.

Hike portions of this at least once a year, Could be marked better with blazing but even so is fairly easy to stay on track. Terrain is rocky, steep in most portions and fairly slick no matter time of year. Wildlife is abundant in the area including deer, grouse, turkey and bear.

This trail is awesome! I grew up in Renovo, but I didn't start hiking it until I moved. Now I live in AK and I try to hike sections of the CKT every time I'm back east.
