First half mile from Blue Mountain Rd is mostly ascent on large rocks, but nicely scenic pine forest setting with a partial lookout toward top. The rest of trail to Smith Gap Rd was typical thin/curvy trail with frequent rocks and very mild up and downs. Settings change enough to avoid becoming too boring, but not exactly very interesting either. Easy enough hike though after the initial ascent. Have to say the rocks on this stretch tend to be rather slippery when humid. Will admit to not having the greatest shoes, but were definitely newer with decent tread...felt I might as well have strapped ice blocks to the bottom of them.
