washed out

The trail was washed out 0.7 miles into the hike. I marked it on my recording. No easy way around it. I tried it in the winter thinking it would be frozen enough, but no joy. I’m guessing it would be better in the summer and fall and that the spring would be wet too.

I did this trail during mid February; the goal was to reach the Gull Point Observation Tower. I ended up detouring to photograph the large ice boulders that resulted from Lake Erie being frozen over. Therefore I walked the “ice beach” most of the way. On the return I had to backtrack and go the way I came in as the trail was ice covered and washed out in many places. After falling through the ice into 1’+ of water I decided it wasn’t worth it. Just keep in mind you can reach the “objective” kinda using the trail but you’ll have to utilize the beach.

Went for a beautiful hike here last fall

Trailhead start was detoured however barely 1 mile in the trail was under water !

this is a nice relaxing trail rather you ride the road or trail, I like to trail ride in and road ride out.

Easy trail with a paved very narrow path about 2 feet wide. It is currently very overgrown and buggy, definitely wear a insect repellent. There are a few areas on the trail that are like sink holes next to the paved trail, if I hadn't looked down I'd have stepped right in, not sure how deep these go. The trail leads to a historic lighthouse and beaches. Trail is dog friendly for leashed pets.

great trail, beautiful area, busy trail with a variety of pedestrians (bikes, roller bladers, runners, strollers, dogs, etc).

A nice trail that cuts through Presque Isle. Personally I did not enjoy walking through the sand and there were sections of overgrown tall grass. At the time it was also extremely muggy and wet which didn’t help the experience. Also, beware of bugs! Overall a good short hike depending on conditions!

An incredible find on Presque Isle. It was literally a sidewalk in the middle of a marsh. Fantastic views. Super easy. Even saw a turtle in the middle of the path!

Had to take a detour at the trailhead but not even halfway I had to turn around due to the trail was underwater.

love this place

Not very scenic, but pleasant.

I loved. I go there very often.

Much of what I traveled was essentially a bike lane along the road. Many cyclists were confused to see someone running against traffic but the trail was only on one side of the road so there was no avoiding it. The scenery was nice, especially the lake views.

A short trail with a combination of grassy trail, dirt, and sand.

The multiuse trail itself is a great way to see the park...but it is heavily used by EVERYONE (dog walkers, kids on bikes, rollerbladers...) If you are new to the park have at it but the interior trails and beach walks are where the real enjoyment and peacefulness are at.

My favorite day use trail in the area.

Note it has been closed the entire summer of 2017 due to high waters this past winter. I tried to use it 9/2017 and it is still impassable.

The difficulty varies greatly on this trail depending upon the weather!!!! If the sand is frozen or partially frozen and it isn't windy - it's a quick easy walk. Majority of the trail is sandy if not straight sand so it can be taking on the lower legs. If it is windy- look the hell out it can be a very difficult hike. Temperatures out on the point in late winter early spring can be 20 degrees difference from a few miles away so come prepared.

That being said just incredible view. I tell people if I blind folded you and placed you at the end of the trail in January and Feb. when there are ice dunes you would swear you were in the artic circle. Incredible lake views on one side, ponds, marshes, Thompsen Bay on the other side. Tons of Wild birds, usually very few other people.

Good for hiking, snow shoes, and fishing.

Parts of this paved walkway are beautiful, with scenic views of the water and the city across the bay. In general, there is heavy foot traffic, not everyone picks up their dog's poop, and parts of the walkway are right next to the road (exhaust fumes). Nice path, and a nice walk with some good nature viewing. You can do all of this trail, or there are numerous parking areas where you can create your own loop. Restroom facilities are open from May to October (except at the Reservoir and ranger station where they are open year round)
Watch for ticks on yourselves and your pets. Lyme disease is prevalent.

This can be a nice, short stand alone trail or you can make it part of a larger loop to include the Perry Monument and the beaches if you wanted to. This trail has a paved (narrow) sidewalk from Misery Bay side to the Lighthouse on the lake side. It does get wet in places, but this is easily traversed. In late June and July there are scads of flies on this trail, and Presque Isle in general is known for a lot of ticks so use repellant. Bicycles are not allowed on this trail.
During winter, can be used as XC Skiing trail

Perfect if you are into some sort of cardio. I.e. Kayaking, running, biking, skating etc... this place is a great find but beyond crowed during peak summer season.

Nice loop with lots to see. A bit too busy for our taste but if that doesn't bother you, definitely worth the visit.

Ride here all the time. Use the the lakeside trail a lot less traffic! It's a loop so you can turn around and come back on the same side.

My go to for a quick hike when I'm not up for a drive out of Erie. Gets a bit muddy in spots, but well maintained. Beautiful views of the lake and inland lagoons and great for spotting animals.
