This was a really fun trail with challenging climbs, plenty of easy flat runs, and a ton of fun stream crossings. We came in the fall so the leaves and scenery were beautiful!! There’s a couple things you should know before heading out: 1) this trail is 7.6 miles, not the stated 5.9. The road leading to the trailhead is full of ditches and holes so be careful if you don’t have an SUV. We parked off Fire Run Road and walking from there to the trail head takes you to a grand total of 10.4 miles. 2) if you start out counter clockwise on McKenna trail you’ll have a long, steep downward climb which is challenging but really nice; if you start clockwise you’ll have a ton of fun stream crossings followed by a very steep climb to the ridge. 3) there are a lot of stream crossings and a lot of overgrown thorn bushes so dress appropriately!

Plenty of stream crossings along the bottom section make this a fun and moderately technical trail.

Hiked this for the first time today. We were able to make all the crossings without getting our feet wet and it rained a good bit the night before. About 90% of this 1000+ft elevation change is very gradual except one steep creek to ridge section. Everything is fairly well marked but was nice that this app worked throughout the hike. We did this hike on a 80 degree blue sky Sunday but surprisingly it wasn’t hot cause of the shade and we only saw 1 other group.

Lovely trail with a creek crossing just about every 50 paces for a the entire southern stretch of the loop. Nice steep incline right after you hit the half way point, then a great ridge walk for the northern stretch, giving great views of the boulder and rock formations.

We did this last weekend after some heavy rains so the stream crossings were a little much, but otherwise it was an awesome trail. Good landscape variability, well marked, quiet. We will definitely come back with better conditions.

great hike due to varied landscape, wildlife, and challenge. be prepared for many stream crossings and a few very steep hills. there is one point where the trail goes through a section that looks like a campground (though multiple signs say no camping), it's slightly unclear where the trail goes here. if you are heading from painter's rock to roaring run. having just passed the offshoot to McKenna, keep going down hill curving toward the left until you meet the old logging road. once there it's a bit boring for a while, but roaring run will reignite the challenge.

This trail is probably pretty challenging on a nice June day, but it's definitely no joke in March with 6" of snow. The melt hasn't happened yet so the creek was passable in waterproof boots at all crossings. It was a pretty hike throughout. Had a little bit of difficulty finding blazes a few times, but the trails might be more obvious without the snow. The only tracks in the snow (aside from mine and my dog's) were deer, and we had the entire place to ourselves. :)

This is a fairly difficult ride. Plenty of hills and plenty of challenges!

We were hiking at Linn Run and came across this abandoned ski resort. It was awesome!

This is a great ski area and the lodge is to die for. They get a lot of snow and can make a lot.
