Most of this trail is through the woods and not as close to the river as I would have liked. However, it was pretty and the falls at the end are impressive.

Super easy hike for our three young hikers. Beauty surrounds from the views afar to the ones under your feet. We were surrounded by butterflies, flowers and millions of tadpoles!!! Highly recommend for young family's or even just someone needing a break from the every day errands in life.

As always - a good hike with great views. Glissaded down about 1000 feet. So fun. Total time 5h.

Awesome views of lake and mt bachelor. Easy hike with lovely wildflowers and trickling streams

Completed as a quick overnight. Arrived late afternoon on the Saturday and was quite surprised that we were able to get a parking spot. Most people were day hikers and were leaving as we were headed up. The mosquitoes were out in full force, but our bug spray kept most away. Pretty views of the sunset glow on Broken Top and sunrise glow on South Sister.

Tumalo Mountain is a popular hike in Central Oregon with fantastic views from the top!

It was awesome, minus the mosquitos! We forgot bug repellent so that is on us. We plan to do this one again soon.

Wonderful scenery in a old growth Douglas Fir forrest. Still snow on the trail on July 3rd. Moraine Lake is gorgeous and provides breath taking views. Definitely worth going.

I'm 15 and come from SC, so I'm not very skilled in hiking. But this trail was fantastic and had it's tough moments, but the views were worth it!!

It was a great hike! Did it with a 20 lb pack and it wasn’t too bad (I’m new to hiking) The trail is maintained very well and the lake is beautiful from every angle. Plan to do again and hammock out over night!

Great hike. Views were worth the pain!

Easy precursor to connecting with the Broken Top Loop Trail to see Noname Lake. Or use as a cool down after concluding the 14 mile round trip to the top of Broken Top

it was stunning..start early the parking lot is packed

Great hike with Golden Retrievers (on leash) in July. Start early - this is a popular trail. You’ll need mosquito repellant!

Bring $5 for a pass in the parking area, and don’t forget to get a free backcountry permit at the trailhead.

Decent hike. First time backpacking. Could not see any lakes until Lava Lake at the end of the hike. There is a campground at the end (so not quite backpacking). I would recommend either making a reservation at the campground prior or doing the hike one way.

Very beautiful hike. Was a little tricky keeping on trail do to snow cover in some parts but it was still well worth the trip. Make sure to have camera ready because there are so many beautiful sights to record.

Go back to California, the hikes there are way better.

Relatively easy trail with a fantastic view at top!

Beautiful, easy trail. Nicely groomed. A few too many mosquitoes. Love that you can get there from Sunriver.

We don’t normally take in ranger talks, but we did here and were pleased we did because the ranger was super well informed and was happy to answer questions. After the talk he walked onto the lava with us and shared more info. Well worth the stop.

This is one of many great stop for tourists unfamiliar with the Newberry Caldera in Central Oregon. Since I have been regularly visiting the area for over thirty years, I tend to pass up these well-known sites. Though there are dozens if not hundreds of more remote destinations nearby, it's worth a visit to see all the official attractions. It had been a few years since I walked through the lava flow, so it was enjoyable. It can be crowded since it is an easy and accessible trail, though there weren't many people when I visited this time.

Camping at lake was excellent for an early start to the summit, mid thirties at night, light wind.. Pretty much snow free. Sensitive area, no fires, upper canyon trail closed for restoration.

One of my favorites in the area, and today was no different. Just small patches of snow left here and there. Mosquitoes were in full force - I forgot the bug spray and got destroyed.

One of my favorite hikes of Central Oregon, this is my 7th time hiking it! pretty easy hike. Starts along the creek by some beautiful waterfalls and makes it's way to the base of south sister. Makes good trail running if your up for it. very pretty!

So there are two different ways to get to Moraine Lake. You can go on the south Sister trail to the junction with Moraine Lake trail. This way is pretty steep in places but you do get a pretty dramatic view when you get to the Moraine Lake trail. The other way is to go on the Green Lakes trail for about 2 miles until it meets up with the Moraine Lake trail. This way is my favorite - the grade is much easier and the trail is a lot more scenic. Also on the Green Lakes trail when you get a little more than a half mile in follow a small side trail downstream for a peek at the redundantly named but quite dramatic Falls Creek Falls.

The approach isn't that interesting - a walk along the river with only occasional views, but the basin around Green Lake is lovely. In mid-June there were still a few snow patches but easily negotiable.

Just gorgeous and easily accessible! Dog friendly. Wear waterproof shoes and bring bug spray!
