trail running

Hit this one in August so the water was down. Almost too down according to the dogs, but it was enough. Not as much shade as I was hoping for on this summer day because most of the forest appears to have burnt down many years ago. But it was pretty, with no other people. And perfect for trail running, as it has only mild inclines and declines. A lot of underbrush but the trail was kept clear enough that it wasn’t a problem. This is actually Twin Pillars trail (from the south) that is also on AllTrails and so this is the same route except that one continues further all the way to the pillars. I would do it again!

not kid friendly to many drop offs. we did have a blast though. I would recommend 12 and older. our kids are 2,3, and 5. the 5 year old walked the whole way and the other younger ones walked most of it.

An easy hike or short trail run, even with the 5 flights of stairs on the return trip. Go early and avoid getting eaten.

Relatively easy hike, family friendly. I rate it as easy to moderate.. full cascade Mountain View’s to the west. Eagles view of the river canyon.

Great trail, beautiful hike, & a nice place to hang out and relax.

We did this hike 3 weeks ago from the north trailhead. Lots of new growth forest, some creek jumping, but beautiful views of Desolation Canyon and glimpses of Steins Pillar.

Round Mountain can be completed as from either the north or south trailhead to the summit or can be done as a shuttle and push all the way through. The beautiful fields of corn lily really help to enhance the beauty and views of this hike. There are 360 degree views from the summit that stretch from the Cascades to Big Summit Prairie. The actual climb up the mountain totals about 1000 feet over 2 miles or so and while consistent, isn't too steep.

Easy, beautiful hike!

It pretty. Very easy and worth the time.

Beautiful hike

Let but of climbing around at the end is awesome!

We did a short 6 mile out and back from the Wildcat Campground to the Belknap trail. The wild flowers were fantastic and we had the trail all to ourselves. It is truly beautiful this time of year and the weather was perfect. Given all of the hikes in the Ochocos and Cascades with big elevation gains this was a perfect early spring hike.

love the drive to the trail love the hike. never see too manu people camping sites near by can hear the river ib the background beautiful site as u make it to the top. done this hike many times recommend short but challenging

My boyfriend and I hiked this today and it was beautiful! Really nice views all the way to the pillars, and the pillars themselves are really worth seeing. We had to ford the river quite a few times, some crossings have logs but some do not. I would recommend bringing hiking poles to help cross. We also ran into quite a few ticks coming up on the pillars. The switch backs have lots of bushes and we stopped to brush ticks off our clothes frequently.

What a great hike to start 2018. Did this mid February and very unseasonably warm temps in the upper 60's. A fairly easy out and back trek. Great views. Even saw Twin Pillars to the North. A beautiful hike in the Ochocos

Really neat trail, perfect quick hike with an amazing view. There are some fun boulders to climb on if you're feeling adventurous at the pillar.

Beautiful trail

Beautiful trail, when I was here there was about 5 inches of snow which made the hike difficult but it was absolutly gorgeous. we had to ford streams 10 times on the way out and again on the way back looking forward to hiking this again in the late spring. At 9 miles one way (according to the sign at the trail head) this is a fairly long day hike.

Very nice view. The pillar is so unique. The hiking is nice here. There are backpack camping spots.

Here is my Vlog showing a recent look at the place:

fun hike with a good views

totally gorgeous trail. things to be aware of: the map takes you directly to the south trailhead, but the last 5 miles are all dirt roads and sharp turns, so be careful. also, from the south trailhead to the north trailhead is 9 miles, so this trail, if done out and back, is actually 18 miles long. beautiful in december:)

Great afternoon of hiking!! With the Cascades snowed in this was a good alternative. Nice time of year to hit the eastern part of Central Oregon!! Great photo opportunities!!

A nice hike with very good views, possibly most important at this exact date is there's no snow here yet, nor dirt roads!

It may be a short hike, but it is steep and challenging. Did this one in the evening and it was a blast!

The pillars are neat and provide good views at the top. Mosquitos are unbearable in July be warned.

Awesome views overlooking the wilderness on the hike and great scenery all around. Came back to it for the first trail I ever ran, the hills and valleys make for a nice steep run too.

I hiked this trail about 1.5 months ago and it was beautiful. My only issue was the need for more water. Nice scenery and a decently maintained trail.
