The hike is moderate and very busy. Expect lots of people on trail during the summer months. Scenery is pretty, with a stream going through parts of it, and the witch's house is along the way. Pittock mansion and the view from its garden is beautiful. Definitely worth seeing.

Was a nice place, easy to walk because it’s flat.

This is a nice trail. I stayed at a nearby hotel and ran to the trail. It’s flat with nice views of the Columbia and Mount Hood. There were a few homeless people around; just mentioning that because of the reviews below.

Hiked on Nov 8. Bathrooms at TH, no parking fee, parked on Thurman and walked down stairs next to the bridge. First section of the trail is beautiful, serene, canopied forest that wanders next to Baluch Creek. Continue straight at Stone House...trail has a few turns where it’s best to check your navigation because it is not well-marked up to Pittock Mansion. After you cross CORNELL Rd, you will hear traffic the rest of the way. Slight ascend, dense forest, and beautiful scenic views of P-town are your reward.

It's hard to imagine a better running trail for anyone interested in aviation, as there are many great views on planes in the air and in the ground.

Great hike. There’s a bit of an incline at certain points but otherwise it’s manageable. At the top is an old mansion with some great views of the City.

It’s a good day hike. A good hike to do with friends as an alternative to a coffee date to catch up on life. It took me a couple hours to do and it’s nice because there are bathrooms at the top

Have been going here since the 60s.
wasn't so crowded then.
funny they named the old bathrooms the Witches Castle.
Still, love this trail when not crowded.

nice trail but is not mountain biking friendly

portland, baby

Took our 7 & 4 years olds all the way to the mansion. Great hike and lots of spots for the kids to explore along the way as well as some “rest/snack” spots. My husband pushed our BOB stroller with a kiddo in it, it wasn’t easy but doable with an “off-road” stroller, if you’re in shape.

Sad how many dog poop bags are along the side of the trail, I don’t understand that ignorance. Leashed dogs are allowed, and all but a few folks complied with the leash rule.

Overall a great spot & nice trail.

i gave it a 3 but i think it should be more of a 3.5. For being so close in the city it is really nice. it is pretty busy on a September Saturday (not unexpected) I had to park a quarter mile from the trailhead. As there is space for only about 25cars in the lower area where you can park. The lower area is pretty through Mccleary park. This area follows a stream and had nice water features. There was however plenty of trash and it really bothered my daughter. Also as there were plenty of dogs someone couldnt be bothered to bring their crap out. I agree with the assements about the first 1.5 miles up being easy and the next 1mile being moderate.

I second that on the rollerblading (below comment) it’s a great path- nicely paved. Great for all kinds of wheels, if it’s just for a leisure stroll or high intensity running, This is the spot. Great spot for you sunset watchers.
4 stars- because parking can be sketchy- either see a car with broken window or shattered glass left behind

Great trail, the map can be a bit confusing at times, but it the trails are all maintained, and the views are fantastic.

Well maintained trail in the heart of PDX. I prefer early as the trail is open at 5 AM. Nice and quiet then.

My window got busted open. The trail was nice but not worth $253.00

Having just made the long drive to move to Portland from LA, my dogs and I were in desperate need of some time outdoors. This trail was perfect to meet some friendly people and let my dogs get a taste of their new city. Lots of families, runners, bikers, and fellow dog owners out on this nice 80-degree day. The trail is paved and leads to a large park with tennis courts and a playground. Plenty of parking at the trailhead near the Garden Home Rec Center. Easy as it’s level throughout and very clearly defined. Will definitely be back at least once a week for some quick exercise with the pups!

Good city hike. Wanted to stay close to city and get a good hike in, and this did the trick! The views from Pitock Mansion were great as well!

Beautiful trail. I had accidentally parked halfway along the trail, so I didn’t get to see the view but it was still great. Very heavy traffic though, if you’re an experienced walker be prepared to be constantly going around families with children running around and teens blasting music from speakers.

good short trail for dogs and kids

Very busy trail. Lots of people not wearing the right attire or understand hiking etiquette. If you can get through that the view of Portland from the top is amazing.

Forest Park is one of my favorites and this trail is one of the best. It’s cool, shady, and peaceful with little to moderate traffic. There’s a beautiful and accessible stream running alongside most of the trail. I recommend going in spring or summer for the full lush, PNW forest effect. The trail is well marked and a relatively easy hike.

Beautiful hike and views at the top are nice especially on a clear day, but don't let the listed elevation gain fool you into thinking that this is an easy hike. The first half mile or so it's pretty level, but the last two miles are a real climb. Uphill the whole way. If you're not in good shape, are new to hiking, etc, plan on going slowly and taking plenty of breathing breaks. That said, there are 60 and 70 year olds who've been hiking a long time and some runners who don't find this climb to be an issue.

I'm from California. First time on this trail and it was awesome. Loved walking through the lush forest and the views at the top are pretty great!

This was beautiful hike with luscious views and a little bit of rain. So different from the dry LA trails that I am used to. It was a steep enough climb for a bit of a challenge and the reward was Pittock Mansion and a gorgeous view of Portland. You also pass by a stone house which is a picturesque spot. I recommend this trail especially if you’re a trail runner!
