Such a fun hike with a stunning payoff! We arrived at 7:30 AM and were the only ones at the falls for almost an hr, so arrive early to beat the crowds. On the right side near the falls is a rocky trail. Follow it and then carefully ramble your way over the rocks to get to the back of the falls for a tremendous view!

got a little lost but it was fun. the waterfall is down a scary path but worth it!

This hike was so great, I did it twice in one week! The flowers are in full bloom even in the heat of August. The views are spectacular! It’s a bit steep on the way out, but does flatten and then there’s some downhill for last section.

Best hike on the mountain!

Trail was nice and easy to reach but other than the falls and the view of Mount Hood from the back of a parking lot...... there really is not much to see. Nothing wrong with this trail I Just wasn't impressed.

Great for families. Beautiful falls.

When we first got here we were just about to start the trail, and a very nice lady on the bench told us it was very steep starting from the beginning but that we could turn around, cross the road and start the trail from the back and it wasn’t as steep as starting from the beginning. We decided to do this instead due to my rheumatoid arthritis. It was more of a gradual elevation change, and half way to the falls I was thinking to myself “maybe it wouldn’t have been so bad with the short steep elevation change vs the gradual elevation change and going downhill the rest of the way”, but once we got to the meadows I realized what she meant and how steep it really was. But this was a beautiful hike! We even saw 3 deer on the trail near the ski lifts. I would definitely do this trail again, as umbrella falls was beautiful and flowing pretty well AND the walk thru the meadows with all the wild flowers! The deer in the meadows was a plus as well!

Love the wildflowers

beautiful waterfall

Zero snakes on a mostly sunny, warm day!

Very nice hike with beautiful wild flowers. There is a steep part but overall very fun.

This was my favorite hike in Oregon! The trail follows the river which kept the air temperature pleasantly cool and provides nice background noise. The falls are beautiful and you can even go behind the waterfall! Do this hike!!!!

Awesome trail. Park at the ski lodge and it’s free. Make sure to take the trail down to the base of the fall , looks sketchy but it’s really not bad. Will definitely do again.

Starting off just south of the timberline lodge and finishing at the locks is a really fun trip! We definitely had plenty of water sources along the way. The only stream crossings to worry about are the Sandy River and Muddy Creek, both are easy to pass even with a full pack. Since we only did this section we were still able to meet other Thur Hikers for the PCT both going north and south.

I recommend this section for anyone who has some experience, even the novice sort can make this a doable trip.

Would love to do it again right away, but I will definitely pack lighter and move faster!

This hike was beautiful throughout and the falls were better than I could have expected! A quick nice day hike for those short on time. The drive there had great views of Mount Hood, and the drive back to Portland is a great opportunity to stop at the gorge. Make sure to stop ahead of time (like in Zigzag) to get a $5 forest day pass.

**Found**
found a sleeping bag on the northwestern side of the mountain, in a glacial valley. Packed it out. Describe it to me and I can mail it to you. send me a message on Instagram, @sam_joe_carl

Beautiful wilderness! Spent two nights and three days. My GPS showed the final milage to be more like 43.5

Make sure to bring some type of insect repellent but overall very beautiful and gracious. I did bring my dog and should’ve had dog booties for her because of certain terrain. Enjoy!

A fun trail with a beautiful waterfall at the end.

Cool little hike that has some pretty cool stuff along the way. You get some cool views of cliffs, nice little pools and rapids along the creek, some minor rock climbing and a waterfall. There are also 2 cool bridges. I really enjoyed this trail. I saw many people of all ages with dogs and children, so it’s good for everyone. Definitely check it out.

Great weather and great views of Mt. Hood!

Great workout! The waterfall at the end is amazing. If you climb over the rocks, you can go behind the waterfall. Like someone else has stated, trail is 4 miles round trip, signs at the trailhead say 2 miles to waterfall.

This is a super easy, short hike! The waterfall is gorgeous.

Be sure to have the correct parking pass!

Easy hike, great view.

Great hike to do with kids! The rocks at the end are a little tricky, but the view from the waterfall is incredible.

Great Trail and definitely worth making it to the end! Much easier coming back than going in but a lovely day hike with family.

great hike. its 4 miles round trip though not 3.3 fyi! not hard though!

Great Trail and definitely worth making it to the end! Much easier coming back than going in but a lovely day hike with family.

Hiked this waterfall today it was one of the hottest days of the summer so far it was a nice waterfall with a nice spray some nice cool spots along the trail. I would do this one again.

Did this over 2 days (Timberline Lodge—>elk cove, elk cove—>Timberline lodge). Would absolutely recommend this trail, but not this pace— it’s worth it to enjoy 2 nights outside. Beautiful scenery.

Bring trekking poles for the river crossings— they weren’t terrible, but they were more significant than anything I’d ever done before, and they get worse in the afternoons, when there’s more snowmelt.

Overall, this is an excellent hike— can’t wait to go back!
