Too many homeless camps and lots of litter on this trail make it highly unpleasant. Not to mention loud noise from traffic on I-205 freeway which much of the trail parallels. Skip this trail and walk or bike the road to the top of Rocky Butte to enjoy the view.

Trail head was kind of hard to find and there is a homeless camp at the bottom of the wall past where you turn to go to the summit. There’s a nice view at the top.

The view of the north side of Portland is beautiful of a clear day! However, I would just drive up or ride my bike. This is no where near at typical Oregon hike ;-) still a must visit & for us locals a nice stop.

I could not find the trail head. At one point I thought I might have found it but there were a ton of homeless people sleeping there so I decided not to wonder down.

This is a awful "hike". Church does not want you parking in there lot, understandably. So you'll park close to "trailhead" which is canvassed with "no trespassing" signs. They are there because tent city exists no more. City of PDX removed homeless. Lots of evidence of what was. It's an unsightly beginning. Pair that with hiking almost a mile along side or close to the freeway which is very loud. Cannot recommend you avoid this "hike" more strongly.

Ok first off you don't start at the Grotto, you start at City church at the top and Walk up the road thru a neighborhood till you reach the top. The route you see on the map that starts you out from the Grotto parking lot takes you thru a run down park filled with bums and make shift tent villages, its just more secure parking at the top .
