Stellar hike. Radical views. Plenty of places to hop off the trail for a break and a view. You gain about 1,000 feet per mile so having space to take breaks was a bonus. There may not be any snow up until the last .5 miles or so, even then it was only patchy. There is some overgrowth but nothing that really gets in your way. Points along the trail do get rocky so good shoes are recommended (trail runners with thick soles or rock plates are fine). There are only a couple places where you may have to go off trail, but neither will require you to go more than 10 feet. Once you reach the halfway point there is a "Y" in the trail - the left leads you to the real summit and the right leads you to the false summit.Show more

There's a lava plug that looks like a mini volcano 1/4 mile East of the campground, if you drive to the very end of the park you will see the trail at the end of the parking area. To get to the 2 small caves walk about 1/4 mile East, or up river where you will hear a creek flowing then look left and you will see the "volcano" in the trees and a small trail going to it. If you follow that trail it will take you to the lower cave then go back around to your left and a trail will take you to the bigger upper cave and if you continue past the upper cave you will come to a strange sight....the "volcano" looks like a pyramid, thus the locals call this place King Tut's Tomb.Show more
