This is a beautiful trail that has gorgeous views and an abundance of wildflowers in the spring. I have run the first 4 miles of this trail two separate times. My first run was in April and the trail was clear. In June, however, many places had grass growing over the trail chest-high and it made for an uncomfortable run. I would recommend this as a good trail for a springtime hike.

Great trail for trail riding. A few downed trees. Saw my first black bear going toward little Applegate trail head. Pretty good climb from bear gulch trail head. Beautiful forest.

Beautiful drive from historic Jacksonville through the Applegate valley with occasional peeps of the river. Several quaint little country towns along the way.

Boring and Flat trail.

We explored here in May and the weather could not have been more perfect. At first we drove past the designated parking area, wondering what was further down the road. If you do that, it will take you to the other smaller lake that has a trail, but not around the whole lake like the other one. We didn't stay long at this spot, just long enough to check out the first picnic spot by the lake which was filled with bugs. So we got back in the car and went back to the designated parking area and walked down towards the big lake (pretty short walk).

The first opening at the lake had great views, but again, tons of bugs. There was also a LOT of dog poop, so I took some time to pick it all up so my kids didn't have to worry about stepping in it. The dog and kids played in the water a bit here and then we decided to start the walk around the lake. I wish we would have walked to the right earlier, because there are much better spots to relax and swim at. And there were hardly any bugs flying in our face at the other spots.

We walked around the whole lake and noticed 4 different spots with rope swings. They are in spots best suited for ages 10 and up in my opinion. But still fun to at least check out, even with little kids. I thought spot #9 was the prettiest swing spot. The water was pretty clear here and we could see lots of fish swimming around.

We had the place all to ourselves and had so much fun. If you are going in the spring or summer, don't forget your bug spray!

went there in the middle of April, not a soul to be found. kinda creepy considering it's super far out in the woods. but was a good run. can be a bit hard to find, no cell service. just follow Maps and it should bring u right to it

Not a bad afternoon walk. Very pet friendly. If you start to the left of the lake the bridge and spring at the end are totally worth the hike. Once you get there, you’re almost done. It’s a long one way gravel road out. I wouldn’t suggest it for a low car or when it’s wet out.

Nice and pretty. You will Enjoy!!!

Great hike.... not to much up and down, and would be great for bikes although we walked... def do again.

Beautiful November walk around a quiet, clear lake. The road down to park at the trailhead was super muddy and needs gravel but once there it was worth it.

great easy hike. no incline. dirt road. well maintained. pretty secluded so does have an eery feeling unless you like being alone. i went with 2 dogs and my family and still felt a little weird. however still a great hike for new hikers and kids. dogs did love it, especially the water.

Great, easy hike along a wide, level, and well developed path. It loops around the lake and can take as short as an hour depending on how often you to stop to swim. There are lots of places to get in the water. The water is clear and calm, and a surprisingly perfect temperature for swimming!
$5 parking fee at the trailhead.

I loved this trail. It was short, steep, beautiful. There is not much to the hike itself, straight up to the top. Half the adventure was just getting there. Forest road the whole way back, had a landslide or two but was able to get by. Well worth the trip and spots to see the river coming or going. Google took me to trailhead just fine, coordinates on here are updated.

the "trail" is more like a dirt road. it's used by the ranger to help people camping haul their gear to their site. it's well maintained and clean. the lake will always be right beside you and there's areas where you can jump in for a quick swim. if you're into finding wildlife you'll want to take it slow. we were able to spot all kinds of insects and saw 3 turtles basking on a log in the lake close to the bank. the trail is flat all the way around. great hike for young children and even older hikers. pro tip: there's clearly marked numbers on each camp site, if you are thinking of camping keep in mind to look at the numbers of each site so you have have an idea of which one you'd like to reserve :)

beautiful trail. mostly level. not sure how far we made it. amazing seeing the lake so low.

Usually do this during the summer months with my daughter and our dogs, taking dips along the way. Have backpacked all the way around the Lake few years back.

Great hike when water is up, skip it when the water level is low.

Fun easy trail. Nie camping spots though we were only there to hike with the dogs. Short loop around the lake so we made two. The drive...especially last 5 miles on gravel is slow-going and dusty but worth it.

Super easy, beautiful walk around the lake!

Trail is in the woods with sporadic views of the lake. Not much altitude change and not much excitement either. Saw some deer, geese, woodpeckers and turkey.

Sweet ropes wings all the way around!
