After going through the caves we went on this trail back to the visitor center rather than the direct path. It was a very easy and pretty hike. I would recommend doing this after the caves.

It's a little scary driving back to the caves if you're not used to mountain roads, but it's beautiful if you look around. We took the tour in the caves which was very interesting. We then hiked around the outside of the mountain. It was a little rainy, but the view was still fantastic! The trail is very well maintained, and the lodge is a neat place to explore and get lunch. We also enjoyed getting our Junior Rangers badges. :)

We took this one mile loop to warm up our legs for the longer Big Tree hike we took afterwards. To get to the actual trail you have to start at the visitors center and hike about .3 miles to get there. The actual elevation gain in this loop trail is about 400 feet. So be prepared for a little workout. The interpretive signs were very informative and there is one point on the trail that has a great view of the terrain to the north. We came face to face with a deer that did not seem too worried about our presence.

We took the kids on this experience 15 years ago and they still talk about. Fascinating, well organized And the guides are well informed. Worth the drive. We were lucky enough to get a room in the lodge due to a last minute no show as we were quite tired after the excursion.

This is definately a must for all family members. It is such a beautiful experience and unless you have a fear of small, tight, and enclosed spaces, this is truly an experience that can't be missed.

I did the cave tour with my mom in the late 1990's. We were really impressed, plus we had a great guide who was obviously very bright and informative, with a nice sense of humor. He did the " 'mites' go up when the 'tights' go down" routine very well, which has always since helped us remember the difference! This splendid, old, limestone cave which took eons to form and is still evolving, offers a large variety of geological features, contrasting with the "instantly made" lava tube caves in Hawaii.

A great place to see an amazing tunnel of caves in southern Oregon. I went there several years ago, but it has held a lasting impression since. The cave maintains an average temperature around 42 to 45 degrees, year round, no matter the temperature above ground. Some spots along the underground trail are narrow and even requires some ducking for taller travelers. The caves are guided, as well as lots of information for the children to enjoy as well. I went in the summer, and enjoyed adding in a lunch at the restaurant and taking in the wooded scenery all around. I highly recommend it to all avid explorers.
