We started at the fish hatchery and walked towards the trailhead and back again. Total of 5 miles. It was amazing!

Beautiful hike. If you want to swim at Wasco lake take some water shoes. The ground is very gruesome between your toes. The drive to the trail head nearly requires an all wheel vehicle. But once youre on the trail its worth the journey.

Wow great trail. My family and I walked 2.5 miles to the fish hatchery then turned around and walked back. It was perfect. The river, the views, just a great walk in the woods. Good for kids and dogs.

A bit busy but very nice

Beautiful, rewarding re-introduction to hiking after being away from it for many years. We had a party of 4 and needed to minimize the distance because of recent injuries, so 2 of us were dropped off to start the trail at Wizard Falls Hatchery while the other 2 drove around to Lower Canyon Campground and started from that end. This allowed us to cut the distance in half, while still enjoying the beautiful scenery. The views were absolutely stunning, and we enjoyed the myriads of butterfiles that we encountered along the way. I'm new to the Metolius river area, but am excited to return.

June 19- wildflowers are in full bloom and an endless stream of butterflies flutter by along the river, no mosquitos or ticks atm. The large population of bats skimming the surface of the water at night makes for quite a spectacle. Ran into the rarely seen Rubber Boa near Wizard Falls fish hatchery on a night hike

This was a perfect trail for me, my hubby & two kids (age 6 & 13) as a beginner to the season. 5 miles round trip from from the campground to Wizard Falls, filled up on water and had lunch and then hiked back.
The trail follows the river fairly close in the beginning and then goes up above for some spectacular views down onto the little gorge. the trail is clear and well maintained, lots of traffic but everyone was courteous. Only complaint is people not leashing their dogs when others are around. would be easy to knock over a kid into the water in some spots.
Regardless, can't wait to do another segment of this trail or backpack the entire loop. Lots of wildflowers & a beautiful waterfall that comes out of the side of the cliff. Bring your Nikon :) Ive hiked from Wizard Falls to Lower Bridge Campground on the west side before... The Metolius is my most absolute favorite river in Central Oregon and this trail is part of the reason why. Gorgeous water, breathtaking views & wildlife.

Easy for all ages & abilities. Gorgeous.. narrow at times though so please leash your dogs.

Beautiful fall color!

Beautiful fall hike. The fall foliage is an amazing contrast to the clear blue waters of the river, especially with the rapids and falls. My pups loved the hike too. Right now (10/14) there’s a pine that’s fallen and splintered over the trail that’s hard for small dogs to climb over so I had to turn back early, but still seems fine for humans.

Beautiful easy hike.Follows the river the whole way. Easy to see trout and Salmon in the river. The Hatchery is a lot of fun. I went in October and the leaves were very colorful.

My favorite trail yet! Perfect if you want a long walk, with minimal elevation. I would say the trail is 75% covered/shaded but still got some sunburn on my shoulders, definitely use sunscreen if your skin is sensitive. the river refreshes you with small pockets of cool mists along the way. Very dog friendly trail but definitely advise you to bring lots of water for you and your pet when the temperatures are high. Plenty of spots at the beginning and along the way that you could stop, sit, maybe have some lunch and enjoy the river views and ambiance. Not tables, but plenty of big logs or rocks to sit on. Enjoy! Truly enjoyable! I will be back for sure!!

Oh, and don't forget to feed the fish at the hatchery! So much fun!

Mind blown, a river that just blasts out a side of a volcano! Bring quarters so you can feed the fish at the hatchery.

Easy, beautiful hike and a great escape from the valley heat in on the on the warmest day of the year. Watch your step, plenty of rocks sticking out of the ground. About 3 miles to the fish hatchery.

I am partial to this walk as my history with Camp Sherman and the Metolius River goes back to my great grandfather who was one of the original Sherman County farmers to camp and fish here. 5 stars for beautiful scenery and for serenity. We often take beautiful places like this for granted so slow down and breath this hike in and exhale all the stuff of life away.

The trail is well maintained and will not disappoint, but keep in mind this is a hike for the soul and not necessarily for the challenge ( easy hike) The wild flowers bloom early June and many songbirds zip about. Occasionally you will see Merganzer ducks swimming the river, or see an eagle pass overhead. The ponderosa pines give off the most heavenly scent in the warm sun. The river narrows and expands along the way and also note that the river is a spring coming from the cascades (visit the headwaters). You will be treated to the sound of Quaking aspens along the way and be sure to look for the tiny blue butterflies (about as big as a button) in the meadows early summer.

I also love this trek in the fall and early morning jaunts won't disappoint.

Enjoy!

Easy 6 mile trail that meanders from River to forest. Great for fishing.

This is a great easy/moderate hike. Beautiful trail through burned out areas and full trees. I don't agree with the 7.6 miles. My GPS said 6.3 and that was with an extra climb up the hill to the PCT and then south to a viewpoint, Well worth the extra climb. Areas for camping along the lake. Very peaceful if you are there when no one else is there.

Fun quick hike, scenic along the river with lots of native flowers blooming

We thought we would be able to bike this trail since it has "mountain biking" listed in activities to do on this trail. The trailhead sign says ONLY HIKING ALLOWED. No horses, motor vehicles or bikes. The hike is probably great based on other reviews but we were looking to bike.

This hike is fantastic and not to crowded at all which is a big plus. You are beside the water for basically the whole hike and it is shaded with breaks of some good sunshine. The water was so clear and blue it was amazing and it was easy enough for all ages although some of the trail did get thin so I wouldn't recommend for trackchairs. Also 2 1/2 miles into the trail there is the hatchery that is great for all ages and has food you can give them for 25 cents.
