This trail was great. Very well marked. Went in to 3 mile marker and turned around and came out. We were thrilled to see lots of deer and no snakes! Very peaceful and beautiful scenery. The trail itself is marked as moderate, I found it to be much easier than the east side.

Hiking in mid May. Hiked for 1 hour and got more than 50 tics all over me. Some of them were monstrous. Lesson learned. It was a joy watching all the deers roaming freely around me but I had to bail. Socks were too infested and abandoned at trailhead. Don’t get me wrong tho this is a great trail from November to February.

It wasn’t the greatest, first and last half of trail is pasture, full sun, middle part is going through some trees with a view of the lake. You share the trail with horse riders which is fine. However the trail in some if not most places are deep ruts made by the heavy horses and water run off. I had to pay for a laminated map because rangers station only had laminated ones. Was told to take a picture of the big map in parking area. And it cost $5.00 for a day pass. I probably won’t hike it again.

I thought the trail was great. Spooked 4 deer that were bedded down along the trail. The trails are very well maintained.

Saw 3 armadillas and at least 1 deer. Not hugely scenic but by no means ugly. The nearby gun range keeps it from being very peaceful though.

A a few drastic elevation and a pretty clean trail made the run really fun

The Orange trail is COMPLETELY overgrown with tall grass that we lost the path twice. with the tall grass we got THOUSANDS of seed ticks. wear more bug spray than you think is necessary and protect your animals as best as you can. both my dog and I are being treated for tick-transmitted illnesses and we were both covered with repellant.

Great trail love that it had many branches to go on

My boyfriend and I went hiking at this beautiful lake and loved it! However, I probably wouldn't recommend starting out on this trail, as it has a lot of rough touraine. There are multiple trails at this location, marked with different colors. I'd enjoy my adventure but I forgot to factor in tick season!

Be advised about ticks. Probably pulled about 50 off my dog after walking the 8.0 mile loop today. Other than that the trail is nice and well marked. Not particularly scenic.

Nice woodsy walk with some good views of the lake. There are some tall grassy areas so good idea for you and the canines to be well protected against ticks.

We did a trail run out here for the first time. Absolutely beautiful and has something for every skill level. The trail is well marked and the path is well worn.

Well marked, very clean trail. I love it and have done the trail several times.

Trail system is not well marked but easy enough to make your way around. Great day hike for those who love woods, open area and the lake!

There are actually several trails at Lake McMurtry. This particular trail is the "Red" trail. There is also the yellow trail, the blue trail and the orange trail.

Nice trails through woods and meadows. Wildlife can often be seen. This particular trip we saw a deer, 2 armadillos, numerous lizards, birds, butterflies, dragonflies, only 1 tick, and 0 snakes. Still has some wildflowers which would most likely be plentiful earlier in the season.
It is a shared trail with mountain bikes but, the few we came across (4 or 5) were very courteous & friendly and the trail is in great shape for hiking.

Easy to moderate trail run.

Horse tracks were a little cumbersome. Some areas of the Yellow trail were not marked very well.

this trail is really beautiful once you get past the camping area by the lake. My group went in January, so the frozen horse tracks were a little tough on the feet. Amazing views of the lake and prairie type scenery. Definitely a good trail for a day trip.

Nice easy hike. We saw 2 deer and an armadillo. Good view of lake. Good trail to go with friends

Took the pink and white trail systems. Pink consisted of a dirt road access which had horse tracks causing a rough ride. Some areas were a little fun but overall, the trails were overgrown and unmanaged. Overall easy technically. Not a fan, would much prefer Lake McMurtry trails a few miles away.

We love it out here at Lake McMurtry! Great trails, great people, and lots to do. We usually stick to hiking the trails here. Just completed The Orange Trail today. Despite the noise from the nearby gun range we spotted a rabbit, and a deer deep into the hike. Wasn't fast enough to get photos of them though. Was a great hike, and will hit The Blue Trail soon. We've done the Yellow and Red Trails over on the east side previously. Those are great trails too!

This is a fun quick excursion an hour or so away from OKC. I'd classify it as a day trip location for people who are new to hiking. The camping is pretty typical, and OSU students frequent the location making it less than quiet. There is a solid primitive campsite with fantastic tree coverage, great access to the river, grassy knolls, and plenty of space for a (very) large group.

overall, this is a really scenic and beautiful trail. definitely long enough for a day trip. my group had a lot of fun completing the trail. my only complaint would be that the first mile or so kind of sucks. tons of campers and stuff ruining the view.

Great trail just a little over an hour from OKC. If you can ride the chili-bike festival in February its worth the trip. The trail covers both sides of the lake, has a good mix of singletrack/fire road, buts it is mostly ST. Lots of good climbs and descents.

It gets overrun in parts during the summer. Weeds, ticks, etc. But its still worth the trip.
