Gorgeous, easy trail. There are some rocks to climb and water to play in along the way. Fairly trafficked, and lots of trash honestly. I carried a lot of what I came across out with me.

What a gem tucked away in Oklahoma. I traveled to Lawton for work and found this trail. I was able to hike to the top and back in just under 2.5 hours, although I wanted to keep going. I was racing the sunset since I ventured out after 5p that day. When you get to the top of the trail you can see for miles, and you wouldn’t know at the trail head, but there are some really beautiful rock formations you can explore and climb once you get to the top. Very much wanted to spend more time on this trail.

Calling it a trail is a bit of a stretch, there’s definitely a trail at the very start but it quickly devolves into just finding a way up and then back down, mainly by climbing around on the boulders. Some precarious little areas depending on the route you take, which makes it even more fun. Definitely a workout and some great views along with it

Great trail. Very rocky with vertical gain making it moderate to difficult. However, my 9 year did fine. At the top, the area opens up wide with lots of side trails to explore. from the top go southwest for bouldering fun. take plenty of water.

This trail is beautiful and not too difficult. As you ascend Elk Mountain, the trail is partially shaded by blackjack trees which turn yellow and gold in autumn. The trail up the mountain can be tricky and is very rocky. I suggest good ankle support and extra water.

Kite trail is very enjoyable with the family, singles, or couples. The view is beautiful. It's a semi-long trail. You can climb or just follow the trail. It took us 3 1\2 hours to complete from beginning to end (including stop for lunch, and enjoying the view).

This trail is beautiful. However, you should were pants. There is a lot of high grass at the beginning. It is a lot of climbing if you would like to go up on the rocks. The trail is a challenge but enjoyable. I would recommend for adults and kids 10 or older (for climbing).

Wonderful trail! My only notes:

- Wear sunscreen and/or bring a hat!! This trail has almost no shade the entire way.
- One bottle of water is NOT enough! Please prepare and bring a camelback or a backpack that can hold 2-3 bottles of water.
- There are NO trail markers so you have to pay constant attention. You see a sign at the very beginning and that's it friends.
- I highly recommend hiking shoes/boots for this terrain. This trail has a lot of stair stepping and tons of rocks so you need shoes that have grip and can protect your ankles. It would be so easy to roll/sprang/snap some ankles here - exercise caution!

I just cannot stress the water enough. Maybe 3-5% of this trail has shade. Please, be prepared and take care of yourself, your children and your pets!

Been going to wildlife refuge for years without maps and climbing on the Zoo wall area in the Narrows. Would not call this a hard trail as shown. Noticed the keyhole class 4 route is not listed. Just loaded the app so maybe will try out adding the option for the trail but it is possible to fall and have to use your hands which is why it is a class 4 route but it is not a class 5 climbing route. Will try out the app with my son this summer and see if it matches where I have hiked.

Great views

This trail was long and easy to follow. I did have to whip out my All Trails app to see which trail to take once and I was amazed with how helpful it was! The trail is very rocky and really gets the heart pumping! I wouldn’t bring kids because of how difficult climbing can be after awhile. This trail exceeded my expectations, we plan to go back!

The trail was very well kept even if it was early in the season. Bit cold and windy when I went but it made the boulder hopping a lot more fun that way. Gorgeous views!

Great moderate hike reasonably close to OKC. My 4 year old daughter conquered this climb today and had a blast. Fairly rocky terrain, so wear proper footwear.

Great trail. Take the offshoot trails and climb up more moderate/difficult trails but so beautiful and worth it.

Incredible views from the top! It’s a pretty tough hike if you’re just used to trails. There are no signs but just head up the boulders and you’ll find the top. The gate to this trail head closes at sunset so don’t plan on being there too late.

great trail just beautiful

Best hike of the Wichitas.

Started at Sunset TH. Nice trail, especially for the hike down the Valley of the Boulders (where you'll also find the 'Apple & Pear'). Before the Valley trail is very obvious. Arriving at the boulders search for the trail at the right hillside (don't start to scramble down the boulders). After the Valley the trail sometimes gets less well defined in certain spots. Follow main trail till parking lot at southern end of trail (various spur trails here). Crab Eyes was part of the trail, I made it just below the eye catching rock.

Short, but beautiful hike in the wilderness area of the refuge. There are no markers (unlike the Dog Run Hollow trail system) but the trail is easy to follow. At the top of the mountain various (gradually disappearing) trails lead to different lookout points.

Nice hike, easy to follow trail with abundance of markers and maps at crossroads. It's not the most spectacular hike in the refuge, though the well known, beautiful 40 foot canyon is part of it.

This trail was great. You don't need an actual trail once you get to the big bolders. It's incredibly fun to find your own way to the top. The same applies to to going back down the mountain. It's an amazing time, I've done it thrice and each time is completely different.

We did Elk Mountain twice, Crab Eyes, Kite Trail, and Bison Trail all while carrying 45 lb backpacks. Great conditioning for some of upcoming endurance races. In total our hiking time was 7 hours, we burned over 2700 calories and took 42k steps. The trails were great and the weather was perfect!

I love this trail because of the view- not just from the top either! Well traveled, but still easy to get off on a side trail, so be careful. The rocks can be slick when damp... we average 1.5 hours (more with a toddler)...

This is one of my favorite trails- I love the boulder valley and the views when you get to the lakes. Definitely lacks a little in signage in several places. I always orient to the Apple and Pear rock formation just in case!

Easy one. Nice views. Wore my 1 year old. Not strollerable

Like the description says, definitely not for the faint of heart, but very fun if you are looking for a challenge and beautiful view if you make it to the top!
