Severely overgrown. Grass and weeds above our knees in some parts. It hadn’t rained in a week and there were still several spots of thick mud. Would be a nice trail if maintained.

Very very buggy. But the trails are well maintained and in excellent shape. No mud! Good layout mostly keeping horses and hikers separate. Few people. Quiet and peaceful walking trails.

The Quarry Loop Trail and Stonecutters Loop in The Chapin Forest Reservation are accessed from the parking lot directly off Chillicothe Road. Near the parking lot is the Stonecutters Loop which is a short loop trail around the old quarry site where Berea Sandstone was quarried for the construction of the historic Kirtland Temple (the old Mormon Temple) located nearby from 1833-1836. Joseph Smith was the quarry foreman at the time. You can see pieces of the quarried stone here and there and also distinctly man made cuts in the stream bed where the stone was taken away. The Quarry Loop Trail trailhead is next to the Stonecutters Loop. It is a relatively flat and wide improved trail that loops through the forest. There are a number of benches along the trail. Maple, beech, sassafras, tulip, white ash and shag bark hickory trees abound. There are a lot of poison ivy vines crawling up trees. The trail is well maintained and the forest was full of deer, singing birds and butterflies and moths on a warm summer afternoon.

This trail isn't bad but I disagree with the good mix of sun and shade review's. It's mostly sun and a little shade. If you prefer sun then you'd like it. I however don't like really sunny trails, nor does my wife and kids. I felt like a piece of bacon in a frying pan here. If that's your thing then this is the trail for you. We probably won't come back till late fall when it's cool.

This is the furthest we have hiked. This is a great trail for distance. The trail markings are confusing until you figure it out. AllTrails app is good to have for navigation. I would hike it again!

Absolutely nothing wrong with this trail. What a perfect place to go for a little stroll. Us and the pups loved every step.

We liked his trail. Slightly rugged but safe enough for your family. No hills yo climb. Little to highway noisy for my liking but it was an easy trail to hike. Lots of Minos and Snakes in the lake and creeks. Fun to watch with me boy. The one thing I didn’t like was the convoluted section to continue the hike. Very odd connector path.

We did an 8.5 walk this morning. The start of this path was difficult to find as all the maps in Independance Dam State Park just say "hiking trail". even when ists a paved, perfect asphalt 2 lane. if you're wanting to hike drive to the campground and park. Walk a little on the asphalt and you'll come upon the official trailhead for this. Once you find it, the path is easy and somewhat scenic. Very peaceful. There wasn't as much wildlife as I expected, but what we did see included the wow factor of a bald eagle and a huge grey heron. We want to revisit in the fall. We both think it'd be spectacular the.

great for the whole family! look out for the activities they do there!

I could spend everyday here. only downfall...people are trash and leave garbage everywhere. clean up after yourself!

Some parts of the trail were nice, though much was overgrown. I was also surprised how many sections were muddy given that we haven't had rain for days.

Great hike. Took a stroller, Bernese mountain dog, baby, 3yo and 4yo. A little long for the toddlers to walk but we made it. Some bugs and horse poop on the trail.

Great trail

Great evening hike.

30 miles today. Winesburg to Dundee and back. More difficult than yesterday because the hills are longer andsteeper. I wish I had this 2 hp engine.

Sort of boring. I mean, it was a nice walk in the woods, but nothing spectacular. Not sure why it’s rated moderate. I’d say easy for sure. Kids would have no trouble with this hike. The parking lot looked busy, but I only came across a couple people on the trail, so that was nice.

Watch out for horse poop!

very muddy, a few trees down
