This loop only includes the upper half of the Oxbow Trail. In order to hike the entire Oxbow Loop continue past the parking lot when you get to the bottom of the stars and hill, and you'll see the trailhead sign there.Show more

There is a large parking lot with bathrooms at the trailhead. It is a very popular trailhead along the Towpath and passes over Beaver Marsh just past the Ira Road trailhead and continues along through some of the most beautiful areas of the entire 85 mile Towpath. Szalay Farm is near the halfway point and offers food and beverages during the summer months. Accessibility: This concrete, asphalt, crushed hard gravel, wooden bridge and boardwalk trail is estimated to typically be at least 5 feet wide. According to the National Park website, this full trail may not be fully wheelchair accessible due to rocky sections along the north end near Everett. The slope is estimated to be mostly gentle to moderately steep and range from -7% (downhill) to 7% (uphill) grade. There are 6 ADA-compliant car parking spots with 4 access aisles at the large paved trailhead lot. The most accessible portion of this trail is the first 2.5 miles north from the Botzum trailhead.Show more

The Towpath is a great place for many activities - hiking, biking, running, horseback riding, and scenic rail and canal boat trips. Historically until 1913, mules used to pull canal boats with passengers and goods along the Canal. Today’s trail follows the old towpath closely.Show more
