Beautiful winter hike with my college age kids. We walked fast due to the subzero temps but it was not too strenuous and definitely worth it. Great views without the leaves on the trees, very peaceful spot - just what we needed on a bright winter’s day.

Thanks to a very helpful woman in the visitor center, I took a loop that included Hanging Rock Trail to Wolf Rock Trail to Cooks Wall Trail & backtrack to Magnolia trail to Moore’s loop trail to the parking lot. This was a beautiful trip that was about 6.5 miles and took me about 3 hours to complete. The trail type was very diverse, continuously changing from the paved uphill climb of Hanging Rock trail to a meandering packed earth walk through the woods to narrow, steep & uneven rocky climbs. If you are an intermediate to advanced hiker who enjoys hearing nothing other than the crunch of the leaves under your hiking boots and the sound of your own breath then you’ll LOVE this trail! I didn’t see one single person for over three hours (1st person spotted ~1/2 mile from parking lot), but I did get the joy of seeing a doe, a few squirrels and a couple of fat songbirds. I would not recommend this trail to a brand new hiker, or if doing several flights of stairs is difficult for you. It had an elevation climb of over 1000 ft. The trails were excellently marked, however I did find a couple of the signs confusing. Plan ahead and know the trail markers you are looking for and you will be fine. The views were spectacular, and I personally love that most of the trail is in the woods. With most of the leaves down definitely dress in layers, wear sunscreen and bring plenty of water & snacks. Also would recommend starting before lunch during the fall or winter to be sure to be off the trails before dark. HIGHLY RECOMMEND ⭐️

more strenuous than I expected. views were just ok in my opinion. quite a workout if you're outta shape.

This place totally sucked. Smallest waterfall I've ever seen and the cave was even worse. Complete waste of time. With so many other great sites at Hanging Rock why waste your time here.

very secluded.

Neat little history hike with a cool cave and a waterfall view.

Nice trail, a bit uphill in the middle but overall not too tough. Great view from the wall, including a nice view of Pilot Mtn. Fewer people than other trails in the park. Lots of bird sightings, which was cool. Also hiked Wolf Rock today, and made a loop all the way back to the Visitor Center.

Great Hike. Beautiful view looking toward Sauratown Mountain and Pilot Mountain. Beautiful outcropping of Native Hypericum. Found a Jewel of Native Corydalis among the hypericum.

Did this during the 5 peaks challenge and this was on the way. You get a badge for it. It's 10.8 miles, I did more than 13 miles in 4hrs

One of my favorite trails in the park, it is not as crowded as Moore's Wall Loop or Hanging Rock Trail. The views may not be as spectacular, but nonetheless it is quite lovely and you can sit and watch the turkey vultures gliding on the air currents. They come quite close as they roost nearby. Early morning hikes are much quieter; you won't run into many people.

This is one of the lesser frequented trails at Hanging Rock. It features a cool cave, and you can hear people in the trails and waterfalls below. It is also near a horse trail.

A very short hike to a nice waterfall and a cave with a little local history. It is away from most of the popular park trails. There are however some very pretty views in the area from below Moore's Wall.

An enjoyable out and back hike that includes two of the park's 'Five Peaks' (House Rock and Cook's Wall), with nice views from each. It is generally less crowded than some of the other trails in the park. You can take Magnolia Springs Trail to connect to Moore's Knob Loop.

Nice trail, great views from House Rock and Cooks Wall, trail is moderately strenuous, very rocky, you'll spend a lot of time looking down, watching your step. It's really an out-and-back not a loop. Tom make it a loop would mean taking another, intersecting trail. The map shows it going to Moore's Knob... that's not accurate, you'd need to take a second trail and increase your distance significantly, to get there, by the time that was an option I was done for.Signage is pretty good. You reach the trail near the lake parking lot, behind the bath house next to the lake, trail is blazed with white diamonds. Have fun!

Nice short hike for kids, only 0.2 miles one-way, lots of stairs down - the falls are best viewed in the morning as the shadows shroud the falls in the afternoon. Cave is interesting. Access is from northwestern side of park, so not much traffic.

My wife, our dogs and I did this trail the last weekend of September. We started at the Visitor Center lot and took the Hanging Rock Trail to the Wolfe Rock Trail, then continued on to Cooks Wall. Nice moderate trail, about 5.8mi the way we combined trails. We loved the views and the dogs loved the walk. We got there around 9 on Sunday and it was kinda lean on people, coming back after lunch, it was starting to get busy. It is definitely on our do again list. We love Hanging Rock State Park and go 2 or 3 times a year.

Your best option in the park to escape the crowds. Link up with the Moore's Knob trail via the Magnolia Springs trail for a good 7.5 mile day of hiking.

Lovely trail. It was pretty simple, but had beautiful views and was less crowded than Hanging Rock Trail. I'd recommend starting with Wolf Rock Trail and continuing on to this one. Gorgeous hike, especially in the fall!

Cook's Wall is a really nice hike in Hanging Rock State Park that takes you through woods and along a rocky wall with great views of Hanging Rock and Pilot Mountain. It's more of an up and back than a loop trail as you pass House Rock going up and coming down. Climbers use the various wall outcroppings and raptors are plentiful. The up and back would be more like 3.5 miles total. Recommend this hike even just to go to House Rock for a family picnic - which has some of the best views on the hike.

Cook's Wall is located in the Hanging Rock State Park in Danbury, NC. Great scenic views from the top..in the distance you can see Pilot Mountain.

Great trail. Pilot Mtn. is a way under rated park. One of my favorite hiking spots when I visit NC. I hike there at least a couple times of year. There are also some nice places to rapel and climb.
