Easy hike along an amazing creek with some great swimming holes.

This is a quick, steep hike up to the top that will get your heart pumping. Pretty heavily trafficked trail but when we went we got to see why they're called the Smoky Mountains because the mists filled the valleys below all the way to the top. Still beautiful though.

Mouse Creek Falls on the Big Creek Trail is a beautiful swimming hole located along an old logging trail on Big Creek. It is an easy out and back hike that is accessed by a parking lot not from the Pigeon River on the NC/TN border. It's a great hike if you're looking for something not too strenuous, but due to it's relative accessibility, can be overrun with tourists. I highly recommend it in off peak times but it also has plenty of smaller pools to play in along the route if the main falls are too crowded.

BRING WATER SHOES! As the other reviewers noted, the enjoyment of this lovely trail is impacted by numerous challenging water crossings. Otherwise, it’s a super nice trail. And support the park with donations that allow them to keep up trails and repair bridges.

Lots of uphill but worth it

This is a steep trail. It is dog-friendly but it can be very tough on many dogs. It is very rocky and sandy most of the way up and is going to be a tough go of it for older or unconditioned dogs. I guess this goes for people too. Even better trails that both come off of the paved part of this trail is the MST in either direction.

we've hike a lot of trails in the last year & a half. They are all beautiful, but this is one of my top favorites! it's an easy trail to hike elevation wise, a rocky trail, but the river views are just spectacular! The outcrop of boulders on your right as you go up are huge! It pays to come early to get a parking spot & have the trail all to yourself. The weather was the topper just a great day to be alive to enjoy this beautiful country!!

Not too hard. Beautiful view at the top.

Lovely, largely shaded trail evidently recently cleared (only one easily traversible tree fall blocking the path today). The necessity of having to ford 5 knee-deep and fairly fast water crossings along return (or outgoing) portion of Caldwell Fork Trail makes it much more challenging than 4 years ago when bridges were intact.

Steep trail, but worth the view. Beautiful flowers and butterflies along the way.

Took two older dogs on this trail. Had to fireman carry them back down. Great views otherwise.

In April of 2018, did most of this trail. Nice hike while camping in the area. Took a short recommended detour to the Appalachian Highlands Science Learning Center just off the trail then returned to the trailhead due to other time commitments.

first trail hike in quite a log time. not too difficult and saw alot of wildlife. good hike

This is a great hike and it’s a half mile to the top. It is steep and you ascend 480 ft in that half mile. The first half is paved and the second half is a dirt/rock stair trail. About half way up at the end of the paved trail is a viewing platform(if you don’t want to make the trek to the top).

So fabulous that we come back every year!

Good trail.

Short easy hike great for a sunset view.

We were visiting the area, and several locals told us we had to make this hike. Midnight hike is the popular attraction, several people were swimming there, but the real beauty is Mouse Creek Falls. Be prepared, this hike is uphill the whole way there, and the trail gets pretty rocky.

Favorite easy summit in the area, especially at sunset.

Very steep but short hike up to some great views. Starts at a visitors center parking lot so a little more crowded than other trails but worth it. The Mountain to Sea Trail also joins up here so you can add some distance by following their white blazed trail along the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Worth the view! Smells like Christmas going up

This hike is a nice short hike but it is straight up

My husband, dog, and I did this 1.5 times yesterday (we came back a second time after the second hike we attempted had no parking near it). It has ample parking and restrooms due to the visitor center/ranger station at trailhead. We really enjoyed this hike - but will warn you, it is a workout, as most of the hike is an uphill climb.

One of the top five in the park. Many wonderful old trees and other surprises along the trail. Water shoes are useful for Caldwell Fork Trail (5 crossings).

The Boogerman Trail part of this is nothing short of a delicious journey through true old growth forest. The part of this loop that's the Caldwell Fork Trail requires either preparation for creek crossings or a sense of adventure, or perhaps both. If you love the woods and don't mind getting wet, this is a HIGHLY RECOMMENDED hike.

This trail can be done from either direction - starting at Cataloochee Road or Balsam Mountain Road. I started at Cataloochee. Going this way, the first part takes you 1.6 miles on I believe Pretty Hollow Gap trail before it connects to Palmer Creek Trail. This first part is quite a nice walk in the woods next to the creek. From there you head up the ridge - an unspectacular climb up out of the valley. There's a nice walk along the ridge top in a nice rhododendron tunnel the last half mile to mile before reaching Balsam mountain road. The allure of this trail and why I'd call 3 stars versus 2 would be having it nearly entirely to yourself.

Nice little hike. Pretty steep to start, but worth it at the top. Beautiful views. My 8 & 11 year old completed this with us easily.

Good hike. The kids enjoyed it. Only drawback is the portion that is also available to horses. They make the trail muddy.

Beautiful hike.

Did not seem very hard to us, a little steep but easily manageable. Perfect hike to a great view, total time there was 45 minutes.
