See my review of Stone Mountain Loop Trail. We added this onto the end of our hike. These are not major falls, but worth the walk because you can get next to (or in if you choose) the water easily at both. To get to lower falls you have to keep going on the main trail (forks off to the right for middle falls) and cross 2 streams going rock to rock (or walk through if you have water shoes or waterproof shoes.) You will come to a horse gate and you have to go through that for about another quarter mile to get to the falls. Middle Falls is a great place to soak hot feet!

Beautiful falls nestled close to the road. Hard to walk around but you can get close enough for great pics.

Very enjoyable hike.

Very East Trail

Great place to hike in and camp the night. My Daughter and I went there , had a great time. We also took MST to Devils Garden Overlook but be warned that at time we hiked it All Trail Classification is wrong. Devil Garden Overlook is an advance trail not moderate.

I drove three hours to explore this state park and this was hands down my favorite trail. I got there around 11am and I was literally the only person at the top. The view was stunning and a great place to eat my lunch and relax. Coming down I did run into about 30 people making their way up so the earlier you can get there the better.

on Cedar Rock Trail

You get nice views of Stone Mountain on this trail. Not a hard trail. Be sure to follow red blazes across Cedar Rock to find the other part of the trail. The one part of this trail that confused me was the end. I had a map that I was also going by. Once I reached the homestead there were no more red blazes. I continued down the gravel road until I ran into the Stone Mountain Loop Trail that led back to the lower parking lot. If this is the indeed correct way of doing this trail it would be nice to continue with the red blazes down to where you pick up the Stone Mountain Loop trail, which is blazed in orange. I could of done it wrong, I don't know. lol Just going by the map.

on Wolf Rock Trail

Nice trail. Not very long or hard. I believe there was one good steep hill to climb. Once I got to Wolf Rock the views were beautiful. You can walk out on the rock and hang out for a while. Made a loop out of the trail by hiking down Cedar Rock.

Nice views of Stone Mountain.

Perhaps we missed it. But we could not find the lower falls. Just ended up on a horse trail.

We discovered this part of Stone Mountain when we arrived at our usual parking lot only to find it completely full! There was some sort of event going on. But we had driven an hour from Winston-Salem and were not about to go back, so we kept driving until we found another parking lot (also nearly full), then went up the trail and chose what appeared to be the lesser trafficked path that split off about a quarter-mile from the trail head. Wolf Rock did not disappoint! Fewer people, amazing views. We did a full loop and made it to Cedar Rock as well, explored the old abandoned buildings in the valley, and of course checked out the old homestead on the way back. We've gone back multiple times and we always take the Wolf Rock Trail, then loop back via Cedar Rock. Highly recommended.

We took the Stone Mountian Loop Trail & Blackjack Ridge Trail to Wolf Rock. We came down Wolf Rock Trail to finish a 4.2 mile loop. Great Trail in the winter with several nice views.

Easy hike, beautiful.

This trail is the much easier version of the Stone Mountain Loop Trail which starts from the same parking lot (much steeper portion of the loop). I almost prefer this hike to the Stone Mountain Loop Trail because it was much quieter and provided a very similar view. If I could rate this trail a 6 I would!

This trail has a moderately steep consistent incline to the end of the hike. The 180 degree view from atop the exposed limestone is worth the trip up.

Didn't go to Middle Falls, but made it to the Upper Falls and the Lower Falls. I liked the privacy of the Lower Falls.

A wonderful hike alongside several soothing streams that lead to 3 waterfalls of various scale. The climb back up was a bit exhausting, but well worth it.

Absolutely beautiful hike! It was a great family hike (we have 2 kids, 11 and 5). You walk right by a historic homestead. Highly recommend it!

Thoroughly enjoyed this hike - it was our second of the day (Indian Creek in Hanging Rock State Park 7.5 miles) and so I was glad it was not too long. The pay off at the top of the steady climb was an amazing huge ROCK mountain top - complete with views of other amazing rock outcrops and mountains. We made it a loop by following the Cedar Rock Trail down the mountain. I think this was probably easier on the knees than retracing our path back down Wolf Rock which had been pretty steep.

By far one of my favorite trails!
Waterfalls, streams, mushrooms, salamanders, and good campsites!

This hike is great for people who'd are worried about the strenuous trek to the top of stone mountain. You get an amazing view on the iconic rock cliff face and it is much more doable. You can double back on Widow's Creek Trail to make it a loop.

great view, not much of a hike.

It's a pretty little jaunt, mostly due to the waterworks. The trail this map shows is Easy, the harder trail is the Devil's Garden Overlook which connects to the northern portion of the trail. It would be hard for someone who doesn't hike much, as it rises quickly, and continuously for a good portion of the trail, which is 4-ish more miles out to consider.

After a steep slog from the parking lot, the trail flattens out and winds along Widow's Creek, a babbling brook flowing off the Blue Ridge. The open hardwood forest and clear, cascading water make this a pleasant hike. Once the trail passes the second backpacking site, it leaves the creek side and there's not as much to enjoy.

Note concerning a previous post : Hiking is permitted along Widow's Creek. Bullhead is a different creek to the east of this trail.

Spur trail off the main Stone Mountain Loop trail, Lower and Middle Falls are ok, some nice cascades but not as nice as the larger falls on the Loop. Trail is about 0.9 miles out and back each way from the Loop trail and there are a couple of stream crossings. Mostly wooded and no views of Stone Mountain. We did this on an icy day with big icicles growing off the rocks, good place to take some waterfall pics.

Best trail in the park. Definitely moderate as you reach the summit. It also has some weird switchbacks towards the summit. A very unique topography and view, like a moonscape. Great views!

Beautiful Scenery! Not a difficult hike at all!
