Suttontown, North Carolina Map

Road was closed as stated by others, but the 2.2 mike hike was worth the view. The research station at the top is also a nice resting point. Sunrise is worth the hike in the dark.

Very enjoyable

The vistas make everything worth it.

We did not actually get to go on Purchase Knob Trail. Purchase Rd is gated and has a sign that says it is for research vehicles only. We walked 2.2 miles up Purchase Rd with our dog and then saw a sign at the research center by the trail head that said dogs are allowed ON THE ROAD ONLY. Even still, it was worth the 4.4 mile round trip. The mountain views from the research station are phenomenal and there are a couple benches on a very nice deck that they welcome visitors to use and also some public bathrooms (which are closed during the off season). Be aware, this walk is 2.2 miles of fairly steady incline up but that means on the way back it's all downhill ;-)
