Quite easy trail once you complete Grindstone, but it just adds to the excitement. I recommend the views and sights for anyone looking for a good 6 mile hike when combined with Grindstone.

Easy trail around the big pinnacle. Worth every step. Views are awesome.

I loved this hike. We did it on a super foggy day which made it crazy creepy. Loved it

Very easy but fun and great views!

Excellent views and beautiful rock face. Not difficult, just narrow at times.

Went earlier this morning, it was quiet and serene, great for adventuring with your dog and a camera. *TRAVEL ADVISORY* Make sure your vehicle can cross potential waterways/creek-beds in order to access the park.

Great trail, well blazed and also informative signs on tree species as well was appreciated. Started in the horse trailer parking lot and made my way into about a 5 mile loop with all 3 trails connecting. Great day hike, low traffic, nice views along the river.

Does anyone know if there is another way to get to this trail. My family and I drove about 2 hours in our car to hike this trail and when we got there we realized that we had to cross the creek 3 different places. I thought there would be small bridges to get over the creeks. I wish we would have known. We would have driven my husbands truck instead.

Beautiful views of the Yadkin River. In late winter & early spring there is usually a nest with a mating pair of Bald Eagles (about 1.25 miles from trail head).

Simple loop around the base of the pinnacle. A few steps which can be slick, nothing too strenuous. Shame you can't get up to the top anymore, but preservation is a good thing. Not much to be gained in terms of a better view looking outward, but a few interesting looks up the rock face.

Hiked at the Bean Shoals Access. This trail was interesting. In the hike, you come across the canal ruins wall built around 1818. Trail can be very slippery at certain points and becomes narrow at points as well. There are markets to keep you on track. You walk along the river and can even ford across the river to the islands.

This is a great little hike which is short, and rather easy. There are a number of stone stairs which lead up around and around the big pinnacle. There are a lot of really cool rock formations to see and take pictures of. There are also 3 to 4 neat rock formations which you could eat a picnic lunch under; some with really nice long ranging views. All in all, a great little hike with plenty of points of interest. Good for the whole family. This is a well trafficked trail, so expect to see folks during your hike.

Pilot Mountain Bean Shoals trail is an easy trek along the Yadkin River with beautiful views of the river and other sights that are sure to keep you interested. Be careful of copperheads while hiking this trail, we actually saw one less than one foot off of the trail. On one side of the trail is the river and on the other side of the trail is an active train track and part of a water dam project made of rocks that was supposed to divert the water but the project was never finished. If you are hiking Horne Creek Trail and Yadkin Islands trail to make a loop don’t miss this short in and out trail as in my opinion it was the best of the three trails. Happy Hiking! :)

Pilot Mountain Horne Creek Trail is a horse trail that is a pleasant hike through the forest back to the Yadkin River. We hiked Horne Creek Trail then Bean Shoals Trail and then took this trail to form a loop, however it can be difficult to locate the trailhead if you are entering after hiking Bean Shoals or Horne Creek so be careful that you are coming over the railroad tracks to begin your trek back to the car. Both times we took this trail we didn’t see anybody on the trail.

Pilot Mountain Horne Creek Trail starts out in a dense part of the forest and then begins to follow the Yadkin River during the second half of the trail. This is a pleasant and easy stroll, however be careful of the Poison Ivy along the edges of the trail and in a few spots you will need to move the weeds out of the way. Look out for the sign talking about Bald Eagles and if you look real close across the river from the bald eagle sign you can see a Bald Eagles nest and just maybe if you go the right time of the year you will get to see an eagle on it. Take the Yadkin Islands trail back to form a loop.

Quick loop around pilot mountains main peak. Very pretty stone to look at. Not to many mountain ranges in the scenic view but still a nice sight for being up that high.

I'm so thankful that Pilot Mountain is just 5 minutes away from our home. It's very convenient for us to go hiking any day. Jomeokee Trail is an easy hike for my 2-year old son.

The current track shown is not correct. Sauratown #15 is the westernmost portion of the trail that connects Hanging Rock State Park with Pilot Mountain State Park. Heading out from Pilot Mountain, the trail starts off the Grassy Ridge Trail not too far south of the parking lot at the park entrance. It passes through some moderately slopped hills, with some pretty views of the mountain. It can get pretty muddy in a few places after a lot of rain...and since horses are allowed, you need to be careful where you step.
