Great hike! It starts next to the water with some tricky footwork, and then flattens out for a mile or so through nice switchbacks. Then the push to the top! On a nice day the view at the top is beautiful. I could see how if it wasn't a nice day and you got to the top with no views it would be a little disappointing. Elin

Easy short pretty hike with bbn if reward at the end. Keep in mind touching rocks and branches that other people have been touching.

Awesome hike, the falls at the end are beautiful, and there are some smaller ones along the way. It was very muddy after a few days of rain. A bit of scramble at the very top, by the waterfall (optional).

My kids and I love this trail. Plenty of water spots to stop and cool off and a beautiful waterfall at the end. Just the right length for my 6 year old and 1.5 year old.

One of the best trails I have done. First you start walking next to this super clean creek with small waterfalls in a wooden area then, you slowly climb up to amazing views of the black mountains.

Beautiful waterfalls and easy walk. I recommend to go before 9 am to avoid crowd. It is a really easy walk more than a hike

On the way up, I was prepared to give this trail 5 stars because it starts off near the creek that you hear as soon as you step out of your vehicle and you see so much variety but, when I got to the summit, there was no view. It was pretty sopped in with low clouds and mist today making the weather cooler but I was disappointed that I didn't see anything that looked like the main picture for this hike. Also had trouble locating where AllTrails was leading me to the summit. I would put this trail on the harder side of moderate. There are some easy flat parts from about the 1.6 to 4.0 miles but otherwise you're climbing fairly steeply. It's great by the creek and you crossed it several times at some beautiful cascades but not as enjoyable closer to the summit. The trail is very rocky and a lot of exposed roots throughout but especially in the steeper parts so hiking poles wouldn't be a bad idea especially for the trip down. We've had a TON of rain in the region lately so there were some muddy parts where it was flatter. I'd do it again if someone wanted to go but I would prefer to just go up to about the 4.0 mile mark where there is a nice waterfall about 18'-20'. Don't miss the waterfall! It's only about a tenth of a mile round trip from the trail and definitely worth it!

Very doable hike, not too killer, nice views at both Walker’s Knob and Greybeard summit.

This is a great walk close to Asheville and Black Mountain, and perfect when you need a paved trail after hard rains! From the Ridgecrest side it is an easy downhill and a gradual uphill on the way back. A local treasure!

Great little trail. Good for everyone. Nice views and wide paths. And a beautiful waterfall. The only problem is the popularity and crowds near the best part of the trail. Recommended but not a trail if you are looking for a little tranquility.

great little hike! Super easy, just a mild incline. Lot only about a quarter full at 10 am on a Sunday, but nearly totally full by 11:30 when we left.

So much fun!! Paved and great views!!

Parking lot and trail both open 5/12/20. Excellent short hike that followed the robust river with several beautiful bridge crossings. The falls do not disappoint.

We did this hike in 2018, right after a huge storm, which made the waterfall unbelievably strong and beautiful. The path was a little muddy at the time but it’s was still visible. The hike was just the right distance for us with our hound dog. This is one of the biggest waterfalls I’ve seen

Beautiful trail near Black Mountain. It's rocky with a slight incline, but not too strenuous. A creek runs alongside the trail and the vegetation is lush. One of my favorites near Asheville.

Nice trail, easy walking, train is an added bonus. Fairly populated with so many trails closed and popular for cyclists.

Steep, difficult trail in the trees. The summit area is lush, small, and not much of a view. It was a challenge!! I'd turn back, if I were you!! Just kidding. Hiked August 2019.

No longer closed, at least not from the Black Mountain side. Just happened to be at the tunnel while a train passed through, so that was nice.

The big flat circle area is the end of the trail. Could be a good place to camp too. Towards the end of the trail it splits, take the right path to finish this hike.
