This trail was incredible! The views were amazing throughout the entire hike. Definitely a strenuous workout but well worth it.

This was a beautiful hike and gave us a great view as we are learning our new home. The only down side was the road there was a bit confusing the first time. Stop and ask any locals you see on your way up... they were very helpful. Follow signs to the picnic area

amazing must see hike. initial ascent is a bit rough with rocky steps but then is an easy flat wandering along the edge of the gorge and through burnt rocky wilderness. went 3.8 miles out, tons of primitive campsites, before the trail began descending to the chimneys (and then back up to table rock)

short, somewhat steep hike to beautiful 360 views of the area.

Nice hike, but very long and difficult to get to the parking lot. Beautiful views once you get to the top!

Pretty hard hike but the payoff is worth the effort.

love this trail! perfect mix of climbing and level areas. look forward to doing this one again for sure.

Amazing view of the rushing water. Not too hard climbing back out. Long but not too steep

Would like to come back in the Spring or fall and do again. Great views from the ridge lines. Walking poles would be useful.

Short hike with beautiful views. Family friendly trail.

Views are extraordinary!

This will always be one of my all time favorite trails. I have been hiking it since I was a kid and will always go back. There are some spots that get hairy for small kids, especially past Sitting Bear but my daughter loves it. The views are unbeatable. Love this place!

If you are just looking to hike down into the Gorge there are better routes with better views. If you want to camp this is a great trail there are several spots next to cascades. This reminds me a bit of Harper Creek Falls trail but without the payoff of a 3 tier fall. Also bridge is out at bottom.

My boys and I had an awesome time on this hike. Beautiful from start to finish. Pretty strenuous but not terrible (and I’m not an avid hiker). Will definitely do this again.

easy hike to sitting bear rock after that it gets very steep then levels back out. great views along the way though

On the harder side.. but still not to bad as its pretty short.

on the harder side but not to bad considering the length.

One of best trails close to Morganton NC

I was expecting the trail to be much steeper than it was. A moderate trail is very accurate.

One of my favorite trails. A little of everything elevation, flat areas, beautiful views.

went with the family and a 3 month old Aussie pup. Dont know that my parents enjoyed it as much as I did, but the views are absolutely gorgeous the whole way and it's a great reward for the tough hike. (Mind you, even if you're in pretty decent shape it's tough though)

One of the best hikes I have done in recent memory. Incredible views, varied terrain, well maintained trail and pristine wilderness. The first part of the trail up table mountain is strenuous I would say, not moderate. But we loved that. The “back” portion of the loop is easier and so the whole trail could be out and back to make the ascent slightly less challenging.

Hiked with a 25 lb bag a medium sized dog and a pint sized hiking companion in March.

this place is near and dear to my heart glad I live so close to such a beautiful place the big man above created a masterpiece with this one

Great workout and beautiful views!

Nice hike. Beautiful section of Linville river at bottom. Lots of complaints on here about how steep the trail is. With respect to other Linville Gorge trails I’d call this moderate to easy. There are a few fairly steep sections but you are hiking into a gorge. A little grade should be expected! As far as LG hiking goes this ranks as an easy trail.

This trail is labeled HARD for a reason, but it is so worth it!! In the summer there are wild blueberries lining the path, and the views of the gorge are simply stunning. the campgrounds are also gorgeous.
Be ready for some burning legs! This trail is breathtaking in more ways than one!

Loved the views!!! Rough hike. Beware. Worth it for the views.

Walked an extra mile because I got off trail. Thanks to All Trails map, I got back on track. A little ways after you start on the trail, you have to take a sharp right. That’s where I flubbed up! Beautiful hike. Rocky, root-y, and steep, and the river and boulders at the river are beautiful! Little streams along the way so dogs have water. Not sure how dried up they get in the summer . Nature’s stair master on the way up....! If you are young and/or in shape, it will be a nice hike. If you aren’t, like myself, it is a work out!!!
