It’s a nice starter trail for the area. We took our dog with and met several other pups along the way. Several cool rock cut outs but nothing really spectacular view wise for photos / selfies. Was still a really nice trail though!

Getting to the top of this trail was very difficult but well worth it. After climbing about 400 feet there is a small bit of steep rock scrambling to get to the final peak. The views really were amazing at the top so I would highly recommend this.

600+ ft of elevation in about 0.6 miles with a rock scramble at the top. We went just after a soaking rain, so there were lots of mud puddles and wet rocks resulting in some unsure footing. Other than that, the hike was challenging and rewarding with beautiful views at the top.

Awesome trail! :)

Well marked and cleared trail. Started with Lookout (rocky climb to the summit) and ended with Rainbow for an easier descent. Great trail for pups too!

Make sure to take Rainbow Road, which is what the map shows. Do not take Rainbow Trail, which starts near the Montreat gate and is not shown on this map. Rainbow Trail is very steep, rough, and strenuous. See Montreat trails map for details.

Accessed this trail from the Lookout Mtn trail. Not very long, but part of a 7 or 8 mile Montreat trail system that traverses a few peaks. 360 views up here. Seven Sisters Peaks to the north is the best view. Want to say I saw Mt Mitchell towering over all of them in the very back. To the east is I-40 cutting through the valley, and Kitsuma Peak. Good view south of the lower crested Swannanoa Mtns. Sweet views, overall.

This one was a little tough. 600+ feet in elevation gain in just over half a mile. Nice views from here. The best view is looking north at the Seven Sisters peaks. Good views to the west overlooking Montreat. Continued from here to get to the Rattlesnake Mtn trail. I did about 3.5 miles to the two peaks and back.

Relatively easy climb with a great payoff at the top. There is a bit of a rock scramble to get to the lookout area. When we went all trails except for the lookout trail were closed so we couldn’t add any length onto the 1.1 mile loop.

It was a workout for us that are in the 6o’s we did it ... AND it was called exercise ... LOL LOTS OF STEPS ... at the top there are rocks to climb... it was quite nice

This was a nice trail we made our way up to lookout Mountain... quite enjoyable... I bit of squishy above the shoes mud in a few places.
Every one had doggies and was happy that we met :)

Tough, short hike!

Good view up top. Steep in some parts then very craggy at the summit. That said, be careful coming back down!

Fairly Difficult averaged 3 mph with running the fire road. Great time. My wife and I loved it, but our legs are paying now as we sit a Trail Head for food and a beer!

Nice trail and allows connection to East Ridge trail to create a loop. Rocks above trestle are slick

The view!! Very steep and you have to rock climb towards the top

Gorgeous views! Not too bad of hike but has pretty steep inclines.

Took my pregnant wife and dog along for this one. About 20-30 minutes to the top with a break in the middle. It is a steady incline with stairs and some shimmying between rocks near the top. Views are fantastic! Gets busy though.

This is a pretty hard hike going upwards with a lot of steps and some rock scrambles towards the end/summit. Many of the trial are closed and you'll see some re-route signs along the way. Once at the top, you'll find some nice views.

Hard hike but well worth it. Awesome views! I will definitely do this hike again

Difficult hike but well worth it. The view is amazing. Wear good shoes and bring water.

The trail was difficult in some spots but people of all ages were climbing. I enjoyed descending on the other side of the overlook more than the actual ascent. There was a trail leading away from the overlook into the forest that brought us to a some beautiful areas, particularly to one short descent covered in ferns.

The trail was decent, but the views were scarce with the exception of my trip up to Lookout's rocky top - spectacular views. Be forewarned that the first 1/2 mile is straight up and the entire trip to Lookout is up steep steps, rocks and stairs - not for the faint at heart. The trail wasn't were marked and a 25% of it was one step below bush whacking. Still enjoyed the day.

From downtown Montreat, go up Lookout Road to a two tiered parking area in the woods on the right. The trail goes up gradually via steps and a steady climb through rhododendron. After a wood platform, the trail goes up a step rock face [only sticky spot] to a rocky outcropping at the lookout with a great view of Montreat and the valley below. Another 10 minutes up and you can get to the top of Lookout Mountain, but it's all covered in trees. Great short vertical hike to some awesome views. You get a lot of bang for your effort!

Awesome views, exciting hike, HIGHLY recommend!
