Explore the most popular walking trails near Linville with hand-curated trail maps and driving directions as well as detailed reviews and photos from hikers, campers and nature lovers like you.

The views were nice but we didn't realize that it would be $20 PER PERSON to get in! Only go if you're planning on doing something else within the park or if you have accessibility issues (you can drive straight to the bridge and there's an elevator to circumvent the stairs). You can get views that are just as nice for free.

brought my 12, 8, and 5 yr old. we got all the way to the summit. amazing. worth it.

About a mile and a half round trip from the parking area. Had to get that classic shot of Linn Cove snaking around Grandfather Mtn with the Linville Gorge peaks behind it. Fall foliage is a total bust this year, so my shot isn't so classic.

This trail is climbing intensive with loads of opportunities to veer off and find your own look out! You must go to the end for the best views!

It was a little uphill at the beginning but not too bad. It has been years since I hiked this trail and the view isn't, as open as it used to be. Still worth the hike.

Truly omg! There’s a fee but go ahead bite that bullet! There’s an animal sanctuary, a museum, an amazing gift shop, the mile high swinging bridge( it really swings) and loads of trails! Oh did I mention a portion of Forest Gump was filmed here! Plus it’s Grandfather Mountain! Just do it!

I adore this location! We had Jadie Pup with us and was a great place to let her out to stretch her legs! Kid friendly! Very nice RS with wonderful staff and a National Park Services gift shop! Highly recommend! Might I suggest you read about the viaduct itself! It was featured in Modern Marvels on Discovery Channel!

Absolutely love this trail. Easy walk to expansive, beautiful views. An excellent choice for a quick hike with great payoff. Foliage is amazing along the trail itself. Be sure to check out the plaques!

My husband, my 5 year old daughter and I did this short hike over Labor Day weekend and we really enjoyed it! It’s a quick hike to the top and beautiful views of the Linville Valley and Grandfather Mountain. It was easy enough for my 5 year old but just “challenging” enough to get the heart rate elevated and feel good afterwards. Lots of places to sit and take in the views. We will definitely do this short hike again.

I LOVED this hike! There are parts that are more “moderate” than easy though. Lots of varied terrain and views. There is one part you will need to grab a cable to climb up. One of my favorite hikes ever!

I been on this trail and love it I go there every summer

This is a great area. The only reason its not 5 stars is im a little afraid of heights so im going to dock it one point. Otherwise it is fantastic area with some great views.

A nice hike up from the lower parking to the upper parking by the bridge. It is very rocky and it was helpful to have hiking boots on, versus tennis shoes.

A rocky and winding pathway, wide enough and well maintained for a hike from the parking lot to the Mile High Swinging Bridge. As easy hike as well.

This hike was awesome but I would rate it as strenuous. Lots of bouldering and rocks are slippery in places. The cables and ladders are great. The views, especially at Raven rocks are simply stupendous. I would give yourself 3-4 hours and take it slow. Don’t bring hiking poles as you need your hands free. It’s well worth the hike.

Gorgeous! I had no idea this was there- trail is about a mile then you can continue on tawanhana or put a foot on the parkway or return to linn cove parking lot

Nice attraction. It could make you nervous if you don’t care for heights

Heading to NC in a few months, I read a posts down that the elevated portion of the trail where most photos are taken was under construction.
Can anybody add an update to if that location is open again?

Also, is there a shorter path to get to just the photo location?

Super easy trail to an extremely expansive view. Multiple places to enjoy the view, more chipmunks than I could count. Pretty wildflowers. Loved it

Great short hike, conditions definitely made a big difference in how tough the trail was. My wife had a tough time with the rocks due to the water.

This is one of my favorite hikes, I've been on it a couple times! I like how it goes up and then down along the trail. I would recommend this for anyone that wants a cool view of the parkway

Really enjoy this short trail, the portion that actually runs underneath the Linn Cove Viaduct is awesome! Highly recommend this trail.

Quick, short, and fantastic views.

cool to do before you actually hike

As of 03/25 the portion leading to the viaduct is currently under construction, so no way of getting up to see the views. Otherwise, really nice easy hike. Had fresh fallen snow when I went.

I’ve backpacked in the gorge probably 30 times, and this is one of my favorite trails I’ve ever done. I started at 9 am after camping near the trailhead, summited at about 2:30pm, and was at an amazing campsite on top of shortoff mtn. by 7pm. I took my time with the views and didn’t rush, also stopped for dinner on the trail. You definitely want to spend at least one night on this one- there are tons of great campsites along the whole route, and if you can catch a sunrise it will be well worth it.

Fantastic views- is definitely not for a beginner hiker though. Most of the hike involved simple rock climbing and was all roots/rocks. There are ladders scaling the mountainsides that you must climb and cables that you have to use to hoist yourself up steep rocks. WORTH IT though if you’re up for the challenge. The views are incredible.
