Want to find the cave? Google Maps "Hibriten Cave". Takes you straight to it BUT it's a pretty good climb back to the trail!

For a beginner hiker this trail (mostly uphill) was quite a challenge. I had to turn around about half way up and hike back down when my strength gave out. Be sure to have water and a snack to keep your energy up. I will continue to hike this trail until I can reach the top. Don’t let my failure to reach the top on my first hike dissuade you from hiking Hibriten. It is an excellent trail.

Loved the trail! Views were awesome at the top. However don’t make the same mistake we did and go by the directions going through all trails to get to the trailhead. It took us to private property and we had to turn around. Once I just typed Hibriten Mountain in my google it took us right to it. However the trail head is not clearly marked. You have to walk up a short road to find it. But well maintained trail and I would definitely give this a moderate rating.

This trail is rated as moderate but I thought it was much easier than that. I started tracking my hike from the spot I parked my car in the small gravel lot. This hike is actually 3 miles to the top of the mountain one way. This is actually a maintained road with gravel and was easy to hike. Good workout . It was overcast and trying to rain today so I did not get to see the view from the top of the mountain.

Perfect, close to home hiking experience. The trail is easy and pretty well kept because it’s an access road to the top. Plenty trees for shade on the trail plus birds, butterflies, flowers and raspberries out! There’s a nice little creek “mini waterfall” almost half way up, it was a beautiful stop. Scenic view of our city from the hang gliding ramp. A little further past the ramp are rocks and nice shade to recluse and relax with another great view north!

Bug spray! Bug spray! Bug spray!

Awesome trail, easy to hike. It's up hill most of the way up. Loads of flowers.

I wouldn’t consider this hiking but it is a great exercise trail.

Good exercise. Definitely not my favorite. Views are ok. But nothing compared to other hikes like Stone Mountain. I also didn’t feel safe hiking alone here. Were lots of dirt bikes zooming up and down the roadway as well.

very easy but a nice walk through the woods

dang...app froze up and I lost at least 2 miles

This is a great exercise loop that I can do just after work. For years I didn't even know about it. Lots of trillium and May apples in the spring!

Perfect weather today. I have also hiked this mountain with my 3 small children ages 8, 5,3 years old. They did wonderful all the way up. The 3 year old did wonderfully walking up but had to carry her off the mountain.

Did this trail yesterday. Quite beautiful. Did not see any one else on trail. Had it all to myself. I parked on Globe Road. Walked down the fire road a little ways - maybe quarter mile. Saw the two trees with white blaze and headed down trail. Come to a first of three creek crossing s pretty quick. Water was cold. Brrr. Trail hugs the creek for first half of loop. Trip back is on fire road. Very peaceful. Very quiet

Beautiful trail with absolutely incredible views from the top. Perfect for hiking by yourself or with friends and family.

Beware of off leash dogs. It made this hike quite unpleasant as people in this area seem reluctant to follow trail rules and leash their dogs. The top view was nice and the trail was simple. I did it in the evening-- I was surprised how cold it got up there at night!

I went off trail to look for the Hibriten Cave, but didn't find it (wild goose chase). 5 mile roundtrip.

Nice 2.5 mile hike up to great view. If you decide to try it, it wouldn’t hurt to bring a trash or grocery bag, as most folks who visit this website might be inclined to help de-trash the route on the way back down. 2 years ago we filled up a LARGE kitchen bag in one trip. Since then it has improved thanks to people pitching in.

Your trail is a maintained access road to the top of the mountain. There are no bathrooms or benches for resting. This is a straight forward WALKING/BIKING trail. At the top are great views also a lot of communication towers, thus the access road.

Probably my favorite hike due to close proximity and wonderful view of Lenoir. The hang gliding ramp at the top is the perfect platform for photos of you and your friends or pets. I recommend trying it at sunset and staying til dark, because the view of the city lights is awesome. Also, go close to Christmas or Easter and catch the star or cross lit up on top.

It was a nice trail. Good for an early morning walk. It was very moderate for repair a 70+-year-old legs but all went well. Surface was in great shape in spite of all the recent rain. Someone may have to explain the wooden ramp at the top. Guessing it’s for sky gliders.

Pretty easy footing. Steady uphill most of the way.

A little more than a moderate trail for us semi-retirees who evacuated the NC coast due to Hurricane Florence and came looking for something to do to escape our hotel in Hickory. In total agreement on the views from the ramp! Stunningly beautiful and verdant! Would highly recommend.
