Nice. Take trail to water. Easy

Perfect little trail close to home.

Cove Trail is excellent—probably the best in Latta Preserve. I accessed the trail from Latta Springs when the regular parking lots were closed. I don’t want to inundate the trail or the development that offer the quick route there, but a glance of a map or two should get you there while Latta’s parking lots are closed.

great spot to go on trails very very very nice I would recommend this place to anyone who likes trails and other things to do this is an all-day type of place. You can do a lot of things here over by the lake just a great place to be with recommend any time.

Nice easy trail to navigate and plenty of options to make it longer or shorter!

Great trail. But sadly they just closed due to covid 19.

Great walk. Mostly shaded with nice water views. Part gravel, part packed trail with some rocky areas with uneven footing. Few people on trail.

I really enjoyed it here. Trails are large and pretty well kept. Wasn't extremely muddy and once it blooms I imagine it will be beautiful. Seems there are a lot of different trails to explore in this Preserve. Some trails share with horses so must watch for poop. Trails aren't super marked but enough so you won't get lost. Easy to get to and good amount of parking! Will definitely be returning soon!

Great trail, only did a portion of it. Will definitely be back to do more of it.

Nice walk for birding and wildlife watching. The piedmont prairie has recently been burned by prescribed fire. Cove Trail has bright green painted blazes; avoid the black connector trails unless you want extra mileage. Today's highlights included early bloodroot blooms, egg masses (frog or salamander) in the small ponds, and lots of birds (cedar waxwings and a kestrel).

Trails are very muddy due to all the recent rain. Water levels on Mountain Island Lake are very high. Water reaches the trails at some points.

Apparently January 1st is a NC holiday for free park tours.... very tourist-y but doubt that’s the norm.

Completed the Cove & Hill Trail on a cool fall morning. Latta Nature Preserve is located in Huntersville, NC bordering Mountain Island Lake. Trails are marked fairly well with enough density to give you that “in the woods” feel. The trail starts behind the Nature Center and loops around the Northeast portion of the park. Boat access is available in several areas of the park. Trail is also a well traveled equestrian trail so heads up. It’s a fairly easy trail with little or no inclines throughout your walk. This is a nice trail for a solo or group hike with kids. The trail is fairly quiet and part of the trail opens up to the private Latta Springs Community. Lake views, boating, horse riding, hiking and the Nature Center are all great reasons to do this hike.

Beautiful trail and walk but not very challenging for a moderate trail.. I think it should be marked as easy but that’s just me.. other than that its a good walk outdoors...

Great trail, well maintained, very clean but not well marked. Bring a map! I will definitely do this hike again!!!

This was the first time my pup & I had been to Latta & we loved it. The trails are awesome, you have a good variety of terrains. We will def be coming back soon, considering it’s so close which is another plus for us!!

There are definitely quiet parts of this trail: Cove Trail and Piedmont Prairie have less traffic. Be careful if you decide to explore Piedmont Prairie - in the autumn the path is covered in leaves and markers are not clear, one can get easily turned around.
