This trail contains information and monuments about a Revolutionary War battle. The trail closes early, so check park hours on their website. This is the site of the October 1780 "Battle of Kings Mountain", wherein an outnumbered force of colonial sharpshooters surrounded and defeated a British Loyalist force. Although the battle was little more than an hour long, it was one of the major turning points of the war. Paved, this 1.5-mile trail climbs the ridge, passing several historical markers. It proceeds along the top of the ridge and then turns back. The trail is wooded and views are very limited. The trail and visitor facilities are accessible, though the trail has steep sections and cross slopes that require caution for wheelchairs and strollers. Service animals are permitted. The park is closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, and New Years Day. Accessibility: The trail surface is spongy rubber, smooth, and typically at least eight feet wide. The grade is somewhat gentle but has multiple steep sections estimated between an 8% and 12% grade where wheelchair and stroller users may need assistance. There is a self-guided audio cell phone tour that you can call. Show more
