Nice trail... this was my first bike in about 3 years so it was slightly more difficult than expected. Has some nice downhill to get some speed but some heavily rooted areas moving up. All in all good ride.

Beautiful hidden treasure in Greensboro! There was one section near power transformers but other then that it was awesome!

My first hike in years .. great experience but lots of bugs because of the lake

I Hike this one often with my family. Didn’t discover it until recently. There is a section that is all pine and it’s beautiful.

Easy hike with very few roots or obstructions. Not a lot of water scenery bit still a pleasant hike.

We really enjoyed this trail! A lot to look at, we enjoyed the water views. We didn’t encounter anyone when we went early on a Saturday.

Great trail for all skill levels. Beautiful year round. Fun to watch the beavers in action on the dammed parts of the water. Peaceful escape takes you away from the noise of town. You can imagine you are in the woods anywhere!

Watch for beavers! This was a great hike for me and my boys (ages 10 & 11). I'm extremely overweight and out of shape, so this "easy" hike was hard enough to make my legs ache and my heart pump! My kids had an easier time :) There were some bikes and runners on the trail, but for the most part it was just us. you move away from the sound of traffic fairly quickly - we will definitely return!

From the parking lot it is 0.5K (0.3 miles) to the loop part. My GPS gives me 4.8K (2.9 miles) for the loop itself. Almost all of the trail is in the forest except when you cross the powerline section twice. There is one spot where you have a view of the wetland area. The thing I like about this trail is there are not a ton of exposed roots although there is a rocky section. This is my preferred trail running choice near Greensboro in the fall when leaf cover makes the rooty lake trail system dangerous for running because of possible ankle sprains. I noticed on a recent run that the leaves had been blown from the trail, an extra bonus for not turning an ankle. Couple of spots with lots of hickory nuts which can be treacherous. A very nice place for trail running but not a destination trail.

My dog and I enjoyed the trail- not very challenging, but quiet and beautiful

Not really a "trail". It's paved all around the loop but there are some trail sections. Best part, it connects to Military Park so it's 2 for 1.

A lovely walk through a nature preserve -- a couple of beaver dams along the way. Well maintained path - not too many roots to step over - you can keep your eyes up and looking at the scenery!! There are also several trail branches that meander through the woods before coming back on the trail - go exploring!

Fun ride, there are some tight area, but overall enjoyable!

I'm no stranger to trails and nature. I drew the line around .25mi in when my 2 year old and I were viciously attacked by a million mosquitoes. It was an ambush. It was as if I had walked into a bug spray testing chamber. My daughter has over 20 (no exaggeration) mosquito bites on her face, arms, back, and legs. We went across the street to the Piedmont trail with no issue. I'm guessing it had something to do with the wetlands. Not going back here until it is cold out!

Not very scenic. I don't recommend going on this trail the day after it rains.

I mountain biked for the first time on this trail with relative ease. Note there are a handful of spots that tend to be muddy on this trail. Many people jog here and bring dogs off leash, so be careful when speeding around corners.

Great, quiet trail in newer section of Haw River State Park. Not too many changes in elevation which made it an easy hike for the two kids (5 and 6).

I started from the parking area by the Main Lodge at the Summit Environmental Education Center and combined the two short loops for an easy 2.5 mile hike. Be sure to take the .4 mile River Overlook spur off the Piedmont Loop. It is mostly boardwalk and takes you through the wetlands to the edge of the Haw River. With the tremendous amount of rain we have had recently, it made for a unique and beautiful walk over the water. From there, you pass through an oak-hickory forest and a successional field, before ending up by the 6-acre Robins Nest Lake.

This is a wonderful new loop and the only trail in the Iron Ore Belt Access section of the park (it is not even listed on the park website yet...you can get a map at the trailhead or the Summit Center information area). It is nearly four miles long and includes a beautiful meadow, a hardwood/mixed forest with some amazing trees and a large wetlands area bordering the Haw River. It is much more secluded than the trails in the park's Summit section. Keep a close eye out for wildlife (I spotted many types of birds, a large turtle sharing the trail and a cottonmouth...though the snake was expired).

Great easy, fast walk...Battleground Park Reenactment going on today, really something to see, tents set up, cooking outside on fire, uniforms & the soldiers talking in character...

I do this one at least once a week

I've hiked, ran and mountain biked this trail. One of my favorites when trying to get a quick workout in. Nice mix of hills and flats, even on a short loop. Beautiful views of the lake, a couple creeks and a good connector to the greenway and other trails nearby for a longer workout. Not super secluded (driving range, park office, multiple playgrounds and greenway nearby) so I feel pretty safe on this trail. (I always recommend taking pepper-spray into the woods or on a multi-use trail!)
