Nice trail... this was my first bike in about 3 years so it was slightly more difficult than expected. Has some nice downhill to get some speed but some heavily rooted areas moving up. All in all good ride.

Beautiful hidden treasure in Greensboro! There was one section near power transformers but other then that it was awesome!

My first hike in years .. great experience but lots of bugs because of the lake

good trail...I usually hit this twice a year when I do the Greensboro trails tour...a but "rooty" in some areas but all in all good "flowy" trail...got some good pump sections that you can really get ripping on...

I Hike this one often with my family. Didn’t discover it until recently. There is a section that is all pine and it’s beautiful.

My new favorite trail. Has everything - lake view, deep shade for hot days, berms, pump parts, all single track, technical challenges but not impossible, well groomed. Ride up on green way to Wild Turkey trail for more miles of single track. Awesome for Mtn biking!

Definitely a moderate trail; lots of flat straight-aways with the occasional steep incline in-between, great place to go for a jog. Wonderful scenery and great views just yards away from Lake Brandt. There was enough tree coverage overhead that even though it was raining, I barely felt it.

I, personally, walk my dogs off-leash on this trail, for the same reasons I'm sure others do-- it is a bit less trafficked than other surrounding trails, and biking is not allowed here. I can speak for myself in that, I've given my dogs off-leash privileges because I've taken the appropriate measures to train them in proper hiking etiquette, both on and off leash. I'm well aware this is against leash laws, but my dogs have never, ever given me a reason to take this privilege away from them. If they did, they certainly wouldn't be off leash.

Generally, people are very kind and accepting about this here, despite the previous review and general sentiment on other surrounding trails. Any negative encounters I've had are almost always dogs mirroring their owners; that is, if you immediately tense up and exhibit reactionary, anxious (and often rude) behavior, so will your animal. If you calmly call out and politely ask me to leash my dog for the moment we cross paths, I'm more than happy to respectfully oblige.

There's plenty of trail around for everybody to share, in all capacities. Mutual respect goes a very long way.

I feel this is labeled wrong should be considered moderate. Lots of hills even though they are not long climbs and even stairs to climb. Townsend trail is actually 3.8 miles out and back. You can continue on to Osprey trail to add additional distance. Nice hike even saw a few deer.

Easy hike with very few roots or obstructions. Not a lot of water scenery bit still a pleasant hike.

We really enjoyed this trail! A lot to look at, we enjoyed the water views. We didn’t encounter anyone when we went early on a Saturday.

Like the trail but there is no parking! Enough spaces for 5 people to park? Have gone 3 times and never been able to get a park there. Always end up risking it and parking in one of the neighborhoods near them.

Loved the trail ~ DID NOT LOVE the fellow hikers who had their dogs off-leash. We have a leash law in Guilford County, however you would not know it hiking this trail! What are these people thinking? I was hiking with my dog, who is CGC certified, and felt very uncomfortable when we met 6 dog owners, all different and not together, with their dogs off- leash. This is against the law!! Will not hike this trail again!

We started at battleground trail head. I liked starting here and taking a break at the marina (bathroom and vending machines are there) We are new to trails and found this one pretty easy, there were maybe two hills that were tough. Fun for our dogs too!

Great trail for all skill levels. Beautiful year round. Fun to watch the beavers in action on the dammed parts of the water. Peaceful escape takes you away from the noise of town. You can imagine you are in the woods anywhere!

Watch for beavers! This was a great hike for me and my boys (ages 10 & 11). I'm extremely overweight and out of shape, so this "easy" hike was hard enough to make my legs ache and my heart pump! My kids had an easier time :) There were some bikes and runners on the trail, but for the most part it was just us. you move away from the sound of traffic fairly quickly - we will definitely return!

Very good mixed terrain for hiking. Mountain Bikers were very friendly and gave ample warning of their presence. Looking forward to hiking it again during the summer.

From the parking lot it is 0.5K (0.3 miles) to the loop part. My GPS gives me 4.8K (2.9 miles) for the loop itself. Almost all of the trail is in the forest except when you cross the powerline section twice. There is one spot where you have a view of the wetland area. The thing I like about this trail is there are not a ton of exposed roots although there is a rocky section. This is my preferred trail running choice near Greensboro in the fall when leaf cover makes the rooty lake trail system dangerous for running because of possible ankle sprains. I noticed on a recent run that the leaves had been blown from the trail, an extra bonus for not turning an ankle. Couple of spots with lots of hickory nuts which can be treacherous. A very nice place for trail running but not a destination trail.

I love this trail, though I have never done the whole thing. I usually park on Lake Brandt and hike a couple miles in before turning around. As others have stated, it's easy, but it does have a couple of hills here and there.

Easy but very nice trail. There are beautiful views of the lake and spots where you can sit beside it and relax. Someone said something about a hammock which is a wonderful idea!

Flat trail, easy. There are not as good of markings as seen in many of the other Watershed trails. There are NO mileage markers.

Across the street from the Blue Heron parking lot on Yanceyville Road. Short loop trail. Nice if you want to add an extra mile and a half to your hike for the day. There are NO mileage markers

Nice..very easy to do. Although..i have noticed since coming here..people don't pay much attention to leash laws for their dogs..anyway very cool trail..people who let their dogs run free..not so much.

Cool easy trail to hike or run. Very nice this time of year.

Went to check out this trail because I love rarely used trails! Got to the park and spent an hour looking for the trail head - what I found was a very new soccer complex and a new trail head not to be seen! Going to try to find a different place to jump on this trail. Very disappointed.
