Easy hike with very few roots or obstructions. Not a lot of water scenery bit still a pleasant hike.

We really enjoyed this trail! A lot to look at, we enjoyed the water views. We didn’t encounter anyone when we went early on a Saturday.

Loved the trail ~ DID NOT LOVE the fellow hikers who had their dogs off-leash. We have a leash law in Guilford County, however you would not know it hiking this trail! What are these people thinking? I was hiking with my dog, who is CGC certified, and felt very uncomfortable when we met 6 dog owners, all different and not together, with their dogs off- leash. This is against the law!! Will not hike this trail again!

We started at battleground trail head. I liked starting here and taking a break at the marina (bathroom and vending machines are there) We are new to trails and found this one pretty easy, there were maybe two hills that were tough. Fun for our dogs too!

So much history here! What a fantastic place! Highly recommend this place.

Great trail for all skill levels. Beautiful year round. Fun to watch the beavers in action on the dammed parts of the water. Peaceful escape takes you away from the noise of town. You can imagine you are in the woods anywhere!

Watch for beavers! This was a great hike for me and my boys (ages 10 & 11). I'm extremely overweight and out of shape, so this "easy" hike was hard enough to make my legs ache and my heart pump! My kids had an easier time :) There were some bikes and runners on the trail, but for the most part it was just us. you move away from the sound of traffic fairly quickly - we will definitely return!

Very good mixed terrain for hiking. Mountain Bikers were very friendly and gave ample warning of their presence. Looking forward to hiking it again during the summer.

From the parking lot it is 0.5K (0.3 miles) to the loop part. My GPS gives me 4.8K (2.9 miles) for the loop itself. Almost all of the trail is in the forest except when you cross the powerline section twice. There is one spot where you have a view of the wetland area. The thing I like about this trail is there are not a ton of exposed roots although there is a rocky section. This is my preferred trail running choice near Greensboro in the fall when leaf cover makes the rooty lake trail system dangerous for running because of possible ankle sprains. I noticed on a recent run that the leaves had been blown from the trail, an extra bonus for not turning an ankle. Couple of spots with lots of hickory nuts which can be treacherous. A very nice place for trail running but not a destination trail.

I love this trail, though I have never done the whole thing. I usually park on Lake Brandt and hike a couple miles in before turning around. As others have stated, it's easy, but it does have a couple of hills here and there.

Easy but very nice trail. There are beautiful views of the lake and spots where you can sit beside it and relax. Someone said something about a hammock which is a wonderful idea!

Across the street from the Blue Heron parking lot on Yanceyville Road. Short loop trail. Nice if you want to add an extra mile and a half to your hike for the day. There are NO mileage markers

Nice..very easy to do. Although..i have noticed since coming here..people don't pay much attention to leash laws for their dogs..anyway very cool trail..people who let their dogs run free..not so much.

Cool easy trail to hike or run. Very nice this time of year.

Nice trail..a few hills..i don't get 4.5 miles on my watch..but close enough. Very easy trail..alot of fun...worth the time to do it.

Done this trail 100 plus times..great for hiking or running..very easy..a couple of small hills..just wish Greensboro could afford to put trash cans at least at the trail ends..i wouldn't expect the highly motivated city employees to empty them(maybe the City could contract that out..like mowing city owned grass)..but that would be nice.

My dog and I enjoyed the trail- not very challenging, but quiet and beautiful

Just walked it for first time. Great views , lakes not heavily used.

Challenging at times. Very clean and well kept. Highly recommend it.

Nice trail but be prepared to move aside for the bikes. Everyone was nice and appreciative of us moving so no issues. I do feel the signage could be better. It appears there are a few trails and we didn't see a sign for Owls Roost. We must have looked lost and a nice biker asked what we were looking for and gave directions. Once on the trail, it was great!

A great trail! As a beginner I would recommend to proceed with caution.
I hopped in a little fast. This being my second trail ride ever.

Great Trail. Exception is the trail should have more trail markers.

A lovely walk through a nature preserve -- a couple of beaver dams along the way. Well maintained path - not too many roots to step over - you can keep your eyes up and looking at the scenery!! There are also several trail branches that meander through the woods before coming back on the trail - go exploring!

A real nice hike!
Water views, a deer almost ran into us which was cool, and I love the pine tree forest on the second half of the trail.

Loved this trail. Good mix of minor elevation changes, rooted terrain and scenery. Not much wildlife, but a solid walk in the woods at twilight. Will definitely come back for the Turkey trail option.

A nice walk around the Lake - the hike around the peninsula has a lot of ups and downs on it, while the northern section is mostly flat. It may be easier to tackle in a counter clockwise direction and cover the harder part first. There is also a bench that literally sits on the water mid way through the peninsula where you can take a break and enjoy the lake.

Trail is a good hike. Little surprised to see about 20% of it as black top. Lot of mountain bikes.

A great afternoon/weekend trail for getting a few miles in and enjoying the weather. Very shady in the summertime. Lovely views of the lake throughout most of the trail. Not technically very challenging, but a few minor elevation changes. Will probably bring my camping hammock and some lunch next time! About 2hrs at leisurely pace
