I’ve kayaked the Lower Cape Fear river from Fayetteville to Wilmington in 4.5 days on one trip and the upper from the dam to Lillington. The upper half has a good current for flat water but the lower is mostly class A’s. I enjoyed this river because it was chill but had to portage to often in challenging spots with lots of gear. Would still paddle it again.

Very nice trail. It is well maintained, the path is wide enough for two small groups to easily pass each other head-on while walking/running 2 abreast. The walking path is covered with mulch most of the way, so runners have a soft, but firm surface that removes some of the body pounding of the activity. The one shortcoming of the route is that while it is possible now to make a complete loop around the lake, which is contrary to what some of the online brochures state, one has to run/walk next to the busy road for a little less than a quarter mile on the part of the trail that crosses the dam, near the park entrance. That was the bad news. The good news is that while walking along that part of the path, one can see the very nice path that will soon cut through the woods and remove the necessity of walking next to the road to complete a loop.

Great walking trail

use it for exercise at least once a week for a very beautiful calm walk. never considered it a trail just a paved walkway.

This place rocks. Fun to play / picnic by the creek at the main parking lot... or hike up in the hills. Super fun!

heavily trafficked and difficult to maneuver around pedestrians. Pro is that there is a lot of dogs. Khan is that everything smells like pee LOL

Enjoyed this hike a lot. Only came across three other groups of hikers so we pretty much had it all to ourselves. There are a lot of tree roots to navigate through the first half of the hike and there was a lot of muddy areas but the wild flowers were worth it.

Very beautiful and fun place to swim, but also very crowded with lots of families. Short and easy hike, I would not rate it as moderate.

Did the west loop. Nice short easy walk with a small section of hilly terrain. Well visited trail with plenty of dogs in tow (actually, owners in tow).If you just want to get out into nature without a serious workout, give this a shot.

Lovely wooded paved trail .. beautiful loop around a lake .. nice place for a picnic date ... it connects either Raleigh greenway

Lovely little walk around the lake. Visiting from out of town and loved the historical information I learned at the parks information center.

Did this trail in combonation with holden mill, today on recommendation of a very nice lady at the office? Followed her directions to do a figure 8, starting with the right branch of buckquater then crossing over to stay with the river on our left, then coming back with the river on our right. Went with a friend and our 3 dogs. We all had a blast, we were in and out of the river to play. A bit more traffic as the day went on but not bad until we got back to the beginning of the trailhead where everyone was in the river. We will definitely be back.

Great hike!!

Love this trail during the dog days of summer. Lots of shade and not too crowded.
Lots of roots along the path but that makes it fun! Will definitely go back again & again.

Clean park, nice trails, friendly people. Will definitely go back.

If you like the sound of airplanes and helicopters overhead almost constantly, a path so heavily trafficked you could drive a golf cart through it and being surrounded by people at all times this is for you. If you prefer the quiet of nature and only an occasional companion I'd skip it.

Good walk in the woods, some of the trail has water nearby which makes for a nice background noise.

Brought my dog for a scenic river trail hike. A little sketchy to get to. Not much parking. Trails are only slightly labeled. Won’t be going back even though this is so close by.
