4.2 mile loop to the top of Moore's Knob with 360 degree views from the top, including the nearby Hanging Rock (namesake of the park), and Sauratown Mountain and Pilot Mountain in the distance. The loop starts by the lake/campground. It joins up with several other trails including Tory's Den and a nature trail. There are 2 options that meet at the summit. the 1.6 m option w/ lots of stair steps is wide and more traveled. The 2.6 m option is more single track trail with lots of rocks.Show more

Park northwest of Winston-Salem has some of the state's prettiest waterfalls east of the Appalachian Mountains. Three easy strolls to picturesque waterfalls offer the perfect introduction to Hanging Rock State Park, the top hiking destination within an hour of the Triad cities of Greensboro/High Point/Winston-Salem. None of these falls are more than a mile from your car, so they're open to just about any ability level. They do require delicate footwork at times, offering a prelude to Hanging Rock's more challenging trails, which can be steep, rocky and downright difficult. Main quirk of this tour: you need to park twice, once at the park headquarters and again at Lower Cascade entrance on Hall Road just outside the park entrance. Show more

Short trail leading to the scenic Hanging Rock State Park Upper Cascades Falls, also passes by the accessible Rock Garden trail. It has an average grade of 3%. Past this point, the surface turns to gravel and it becomes steeper, with a max grade of 15% at about 0.3 miles. Where the grade increases has been marked on the map with a waypoint and just the accessible portion can be viewed on its own trail page here: https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/north-carolina/rock-garden-trailShow more

Long hot hike up the Indian Creek Trail from Dan River in Hanging Rock State Park. It's just under 4 miles up to the Hanging Rock Visitor Center parking lot, then a short, steep climb to Hanging Rock along the Hanging Rock Trail. The first two miles of Indian Creek Trail from the Dan River to the road leading into the park climb gently through thick forest -- nice hiking if you get an early start. The climb up to the water falls and then the visitor center parking lot is brutal in places, but you can take breaks and cool off at the falls.  View from Hanging Rock is awesome. Show more
