This trail has two components. The first is a well maintained boardwalk that passes through a maritime forest to the Currituk Sound. It’s about 6/10 mile out and back. The boardwalk trail is busy and is the trail that the app refers to. However, there is a second trail called the Currituk Banks Maritime Forest Trail that is a 1.5 mile out and back trail. The trailhead is on the boardwalk trail and you can’t miss it.

This trail is lightly travelled and you will find more wildlife here than on the boardwalk. It is a well marked trail. The sound view on this trail isn’t as nice as the boardwalk view since you are not on an elevated boardwalk but it is certainly more peaceful. There are wild horses in the area and at several spots along this longer trail we saw horse scat and hoof prints, although we didn’t see the wild horses.

Fun little trail.
