enjoyed this hike

I run this trail a lot and never get tired of its twists and turns. Hills are rolling for the most part.

This is a disc golf circuit. It would be better experience if you participate in an event or go for a walk/hike when no one is practicing.

The trail follows the golf route..

A quick easy hike with the kids. A great hike for little children

Good trail but runs in to a neighborhood

Very nice trail! Only downside is that it's shared with mountain bikers, so you have to keep an eye out for them.

for me, three stars means "good", which is just what this walk is for locals. i wouldn't drive along way to visit, though. the Chapel Hill Public Library is nearby so if you have a reason to go there, this is a nice add-on.

Love to walk this path along with Morgan creek to get about 5 miles. There are two
parks off of it so the kids can play also. It is not heavily populated and you can see and hear the animals around you.

A few different loops to try, feels very open, easy to follow trails, nice scenery, a small amount of inclines throughout

Awesome place

Look for the owls. Fun loop

The trail was well marked, very scenic. I didn't expect many people to be there today because it was 27 degrees out, however several groups were out hiking as well. I'm sure it gets pretty busy during the warmer months. I will definitely be back

Nice trail on the edge of town. No parking space at the trailhead though during the week (permit only). Only some metered parking spaces on Country Club Road.

This convenient botanical garden is just a short distance from the UNC campus and downtown Chapel Hill. I combined a pretty stroll through the series of gardens representing different aspects of southeastern flora along with a nice and easy hike on the surrounding nature trails. This was a great place to visit on a beautiful early fall day.

On of the nicest short hikes in the Chapel Hill region I've walked so far. We were not alone in the woods though on a Saturday morning.

An easy hike with decent elevation for a short hike. There are a few small bridges and stream that runs through the trails. It's a good hike for all levels of experience.

This is a very nice walk/hike with wide and very nicely maintained trails. Beautiful woods, some streams. Good also for a jog if you are careful.

Great trail. Lots of twists and turns. Not very steep. Great for dog walking

One of the best trails starting from Mt. Sinai Rd near Duke Forest, the Triangle Land Conservancy has really done a great job with the donated land to create a 3 mile loop that covers wetlands, grasslands/fields, forests, streams, wildflowers, wildlife, fish, and a bit of elevation. Well marked, good parking, nice wide mostly smooth trail, great for trail running or just a place to escape. I saw fish in the stream, wildflowers along the way, raspberries, beautiful ferns, a hearty poplar tree growing out of an uprooted stump, and was treated to five deer bounding through the woods right in front of me in a straight line - it was absolutely amazing how fast they can cover uneven ground through dense woods with little or no sound. Various types of benches are well placed along the trail with views. Definitely a great trip for a family outing.

Great trail but badly marked. Plan extra time because very easy to get lost in these woods. I accidentally added 1 mile my first time. Beautiful woods, often very quiet trails.

Great kid friendly hike with a variety of terrain.

Had just rained and the NC Botanical Garden forest was very green in May, and flowers were blooming. Trails were a bit muddy. We first tackled the Stream Loop and Hickory trails, then stopped by the gardens. A permit is only required for the Mason Farm part of the preserve, and we did not visit that part, so everything was free and easy to visit. Next we strolled the coastal and mountain gardens, and then enjoyed seeing all the medicinal herbs in the herb garden. Very educational and a nice visit!

Nice wide clean trails. Several trails so you can put together a really good hike. The creek has some nice views and seating benches are scattered through out the trail system. Really enjoyed this hike.

Good asphalt trail. Connects to Morgan Creek trail and Merritts Pasture if you want to add length.

Carolina North Forest is a beautiful, expansive forest preserve right in the middle of Chapel Hill. There are so many trails you can easily walk anywhere from 1 to 10 miles, depending on your route. The trails are well maintained but not exceptionally well marked. If you start at Sewell Elementary School, there is a trail map; I took a photo with my phone and referred to it while I walked. You can also access from multiple other entry points, including Wilson Park (follow the red trail to the yellow trail from there and you will eventually get to Bolín Creek. One main trail artery is the Bolin Creek OWASA (sewer) easement which runs along Bolin Creek for a few miles. If you get disoriented, you can always make your way back to the creek. Overall, Carolina North Forest is a great place to spend many afternoons--great for trail running, hiking, picnicking, dog-walking, mountain biking and walking with kids.
