An easy 5.1 round trip hike from the main parking lot at Dupont Forest. What a gorgeous waterfall, very powerful and ever changing.

Love this trail..it was lightly traveled the day we went..early in the week..until we got to Fawn Lake which seems to be a popular swimming hole..Lake Julia was beautiful and void of people..This is a moderate hike and has beautiful streams..One of my favs!!

Not too challenging. Kids 5, 8, 10, and 12 all hiked it and enjoyed a swim in the middle. Will definitely do it again!

Nice trail, easy hike and only a few bikers today. The river water was higher than usual, when crossing it got tricky since the water was higher than normal and slick rocks.

It's actually quite easy, with the only real uphill portions being short and not very steep regardless. Definitely a great place for a family trip. We started the figure 8 with turning left for a clockwise loop and by the end of the lower loop, I *think* that the signs pointing you back to the parking lot are...backwards? I hate to say that because I'm sure it's me who read them wrong but I did the opposite of what they said after they led me back to Nook's portion, and I ended up at my car. (?)

This wasn’t as difficult as I was expecting. Nice views from the top. Wouldn’t recommend going when it’s too wet out because I can imagine the rocks getting pretty slick up there. Will do it again with friends/family but avoid bringing any little ones unless we stuck to the easier side of the mountain. Not the greatest views from below but would probably recommend for bikers.

We did this trail on Jan 8 and there was a lot ice on the trail. Busted my booty courtesy of the ice. We did the full figure 8 and the Nooks trail. Not much to see on the Nook trail but pretty. I would highly recommend taking the complete Cedar Rock Trail. The section unmarked on the map above has the most stunning views. The water in our bladders started freezing later in the day. Dress in layers with special attention to toes and fingers. We saw several of mountain bikers on the trail but no issues with getting in each other’s way. I would imagine in warmer weather that may be an issue. Mostly a lovely walk in the woods and beautiful frozen river views.

Easy hike. The Pitch Pine and Triple Lake portion aren't used as much so it is a great way to avoid the crowds at DuPont.

Did 1/2 to little river as part of a figure 8. Nice trail hiking mostly over rock so slippery in the rain. Nice views.

Very enjoyable trail and the stream crossing is a nice feature. Tip: due to slickness of mossy rocks wear only socks when crossing. Bare feet appear to be too slick and while boots are fine those wearing socks did much better. Water was between ankle and calf deep.

Nice area with varied terrain. Lots of bikers depending on day of week and time of day. Weekday mornings are great. Lots of trails to connect to giving you the option to shorten or lengthen your hike as you see fit.

Wonderful Hike - Fall colors were beautiful. I will hike it again.

Wide gravel dirt roads make this trail around Lake Julia beautiful and easy for families or bikers. The lake is not populated and very pristine. You can do a portion of this and not the whole 19 miles. The hike from the visitors center to the lake and back is about five miles total. The hike has some small hills near the lake. Most parts are in the shade but you'll also see some meadows and sun.

This is part of DuPont Forest and on my way to Bridal Veil Falls. I'm not sure what a former reviewer was talking about, but the easier way to Dense Lake is main parking lot by High Falls. It's not a long hike taking Joanna Road. I personally don't like hiking 30minutes on gravel, so took Pitch Pine Trail right after getting on Conservation Rd. from the Covered Bridge. Love this trail, quiet and peaceful. PItch Pine weaves around and leads to Joanna Rd and Triple Lake Trail (Dense Lake)

Nice but bumpy bike ride down from Big Rock!

Tuesday, April 07, 2015

My buddy and I did this loop in early April. We had not read any detailed reviews, so we weren't expecting much. We rode Frozen Creek earlier in the day, and it was a lot of steep uphill walking. In short, Cedar Creek is over the top. Fantastic fun!!

This trail is in the DuPont State Forest with parking lot on opposite side of the road from trail. The morning of my hike was cold and snowy. The trail starts out easy, with the first mile or so being dirt and gravel. It then becomes much more difficult because you have to cross Little River, which at the crossing is more like a creek. After the river crossing the trail gets steep in places and very treacherous due to the ice and snow. Overall a very good trail and one an average hiker can do in dry weather.

Park at Cornmill Shoals park area, go across the street, take a left and head straight up a very technical climb then the fun begins! Cedar Rock was part of Mountain Biking Magazines 10 best Epic Rides in the USA. I hope this gives you and idea of what to expect. The trail hits rock at the top of the mountain, super fast and downhill from there, it just might possibly be the most fun I've ever had on a MB! Amazing views and some of the best waterfalls you will ever see are in the area! This trail in particular with it's connector trails is one way to access Bridal Veil Falls but not so close to Triple Falls. Enjoy! Be prepared to be WOWED!

I arrived nice and early at a dry Corn Mill Shoals Car Park, there was just one car there, with a bike rack!!.. Luvly Jubly!!

My ride today was going to be fast, and it was going to be damn right mental!!, so I opted for the 3 best trails in the DuPont Forest, and I did not do this loop once, I did it 2.5 times..

My loop..

Corn Shoals onto veered left to climb Big Rock at the top I took a left and hamerd down Cedar Rock like a greased whippet needing a spot to shit! then onto Little River Trail heading for Burnt Mountain Climbed anti clockwise up Burnt Mountain, and really opened up on the downhill, seeing as this is my 4th ride on Burnt Mountain, it was very early, and there where no cars in the parking area, I really gave this fantastic downhill everything I had, there where sections that I jumped, I stayed airborne so long, I could have read a newspaper whilst in the air!! At the bottom of Burnt Mountain, I picked up Little River again, and headed back to Cedar Rock for a fantastic climb on slick rock, and then at the top I flew down Big Rock, although by now I was slighty on edge, and was more careful not to crash into a human, a horse or a dog, or knowing my luck, all three at once!!

Safely down the bottom of Big Rock, I headed back to the Parking, 100% content!!

This figure of eight loop mentioned here is an absolute MUST!!, however, I have 2 mayor issues with it, the first, is that it is a bit short, I really believe that if you could somehow make this ride an extra hour longer, it would be in the same league as the notorious rides in places such as Moab and Bend.
My second big issue I have with this ride, is, and I admit a selfish one, but you seriously have to ditch hikers and horses!!.. this track can be way to busy to get the max out of it. I am a reasonable fella, so I suggest they allow hikers and horses on Tuesday morning before 8am!!.

On a serious note, this loop is extremely fast and fun, but Please be careful and never forget that we are sharing the trails with others.

My Trail Rating : 8.5 / 10
