Nice hike, beautiful and serene forest but as others have noted -- the trail is very rugged. You're walking on rocks and large roots virtually the entire time - often sharp and often slippery so need to be careful. We started at Woodland Valley campground and up and back took us about 6 hours though we stopped a few times to enjoy the scenery, including a small mountain waterfall about 3/4 up trail. The lean-in shelter at the end of trail is beside a little meadow that would be good for overnight as well. Next time we'll probably turn right at the junction and head up to Wittenberg instead.

Short trail with a shelter at the end...follow the yellow blazes once you arrive at the trail junction to Wittenberg. I added this trip after hiking up to Cornell and Wittenberg. Nice flat rock outcropping about .5 miles into trail sat there for awhile birdwatching..very quiet and peaceful

The trail crosses a river and ascends a series of stone steps. It is steep at first but when you get to the top of the ledges it levels off. Footing isn't the greatest if you are not stepping on roots then you are stepping on rocks. At the trail junction we made a right to go up Wittenberg but we were turned around by the weather. If you make a left at the junction you will come to a shelter with a fire pit in about a mile. The shelter sleeps 6.
