best trail

First time hiking in Mendon Ponds Park, there is a variety of trails to choose from. Choose the East Esker Trail due to being a moderate trail that is dog friendly with hilly terrain. The trail was better than expected, a great workout! Did not see any waterfall, but there was a swamp & a pond. Definitely coming back in the fall time for the foliage!

The only downside was the horse poop in the middle of the trail, but the dog enjoyed smelling it!

I found the hike more of a climb with little vista reward. Most of the climb was a scramble through rocks and tree roots. Most of the rock scramble was climbing over rocks that at times were at a 60 degree angle. My 13 year old daughter, who is in good shape, was scared for her safety as we climbed up and later down these rocks.

Awesome trail! Really fun. If you do both Cascade and Porter it's actually 7.8 miles. My 8 year old collie did great and loved the trail. There are steep rocky surfaces so not all dogs may be able to make it, but there were a lot of dogs on the trail doing fine.

Great hike, but very steep all the way up with lots of slippery rock surfaces. The dog did great. Bring shoes with good tread!

Nice hike. We took Thomas to Cat, which was the easier direction. We took our 8 year old collie who did awesome. In a couple sections between Cat and Thomas there is a very steep rocky drop, but my dog did fine. The trail markings from the lot to Cat were poor (lots of hikers passing us going this way asked us for trail directions), but Thomas to Cat was well marked.

Holy mosquitos

Porter is hella muddy but still lots of fun! Super dope to see the other hikers over on cascade before making it over there. Our border collie loved climbing the steep rocks

Easy start , moderate climb to the fire tower.

Great hike! Beautiful from the minute you get on the trail all the way up to the outlook! The waterfalls were awesome! Gets pretty steep and a little tough to hike on the way up but nothing extremely difficult. We hiked on a mild summer day after rain the day before so it was a little muddy in some spots. We really took our time to enjoy the waterfalls, the outlook point, and we took a little break on the way up so it took us about 6 hours to complete the entire trail.

Hiked after 2 days of passing storms, trail was muddy but not too challenging. The river crossings were shin to knee deep with moderate current. Well marked trails but All Trails app was useful. The toughest part of the hike was the ascent on the South Rim Trail. Beautiful scenery, nice stream and river crossings, and grade changes made for a nice hike. Roughly took 3.5 hours from the Coplan Road Parking Lot.

Well trafficked but worth the views. The rocks at the top of Cascade are awesome!

Quite boring. Nice views once you get to the top. Did it once and won’t be coming back.

Great hike , awesome view , really recommend it to anyone who loves pretty scenic and waterfalls.

Just hiked up and back today. Very pretty vista at the top (both the false and actual summit). Well worth the effort (moderately difficult). Relatively crowded, but a very pleasant experience nonetheless.

After all the rain the Southern Tier received this week, water levels were high but not exorbitantly so - you could still see the shale formations under the stream and behind the waterfalls, and many tributary creeks were flowing in the woods. Perfectly gorgeous hike on a beautiful, cool, party-sunny day, a rarity this summer! It was an excellent workout, too. I would very highly recommend these trails, and hope to come back soon.

What a great hike! Beautiful views! The trail itself is in really nice condition. Although it is rated moderate you have to be in shape to climb this trail. There are several nice areas to rest and take in the spectacular scenery. I know my dogs were hoping for some water to romp in....not this hike!

First peak for my boy! Beautiful day lots of sun and hikers and pooches.

Awesome hike. Unfortunately the All Trails app was ABSOLUTELY useless. My location kept bouncing back to the physical location of the cellular towers and not my location on the trail. Luckily Google Maps worked and I was able to navigate.

A really nice place for all. Beautiful

An incredible country trail through farmland and woods. Short trail for biking yet well worth the ride out and back. Plenty of parking at both ends. Easily accessible .

Don’t do it with a fullruck

Fun with the kids!!!

well marked trail with a decent climb at the beginning.

Me and my two daughters Tessa (10) and Nora (8) did this hike today and it was well worth it. Took about an hour to reach the top and the views were great at the top. Not a bad hike at all, would definitely do it again

Nice short hike. Luckily I caught a time that wasn’t too busy. Most of the hike is really like a walk until you get closer to the summit then it becomes a scramble. Like a previous comment said, I encountered a hiker with a dog off leash which came right up to my dog who is reactive towards other dogs when he is on leash. Make sure to be on the look out if you also have a reactive dog. Payout is more than I could have hoped.

I completed this hike in July. I recommend starting early, at sunrise or even 30 minutes before to beat all the traffic. Lots of people make this hike during the summer and trail can become very crowded. The hike is a nice balance of flat terrain, forest, open hiking above the tree line, climbing, and even some rock scrambling. It’s hard on the feet and ankles as there are lots of rocks to maneuver on the trail. This is most difficult ~5500 elevation hike I’ve done, but the payoff at the peak was worth it. You get 360 panoramic views of the high peaks region..

very rough. expect a lot of ups and downs. moderate is putting it lightly. great trail though.

Hiked it twice, once in April and again around July 4th. Had it to myself in April and joined a spontaneous sunset party with about 20 others July 4th. Great people and a great view.
