We took the trail going South. This was harder than anticipated, especially for 1700 feet of elevation gain. The trail was flooded in a few spots and we had to cross a section by taking our shoes off and walking in the freezing December water at Little Dam Lake. Top of ridges was very windy. We had a lot of fun though!

best during spring, during the summer fitzgerald falls is nothing but a trickle. overall a good hike that ive done several times.

Its not 1.8 miles but actually 2.4 which is fine. 1 pretty decent viewpoint and thats about it. Orange very easy to lookout and green going south a bit more challenging. Its not really a difficult hike and should be rated as easy, not moderate.

Very nice work out with exquisite climbing portions and wonderful views

Did the longer trail. View at the end of the trail is great. The look out point is super cool. The way back is definitely moderate (rocky, muddy and a little steep at points. while the way up is pretty easy.

breathing views

I did both the north and south trails this morning. Both were very nice, short peaceful hikes. The view from lookout at the end of the north side (the trail across from the parking lot) was lovely! The markers were more clear on the north side than on the south side, but both were clearly marked. Took about an hour and 15 to do both hikes at a leisurely pace. On the south side, the loop did require crossing the stream, which involved getting my sneakers wet. But it rained a lot yesterday so maybe that it isn't typical. We didn't run into anyone on either of the trails, which was nice since parking at crowded trails is always a pain. I also saw the wood carving/shrine that someone including in a picture. Does anyone know what that is about?

Micro-spikes were very helpful, as snow was packed down and frozen into ice. Nice hike, saw 4 or 5 people out with dogs, most weren’t leashed. Lovely views.

Great trail, short and sweet with a beautiful view at the top!

Great hike along Greenwood Lake. The trail can be slick on the ridge if there’s snow-cover; crossings can be icy from previously melted snow (bring micro spikes just-in-case). Good views of the lake throughout the trail and decent for a day hike.

Nice view at the top. Make sure you cross the road from the parking lot if you want to get to the deck with the view in the pictures.

Bare rock was well worth the trip, but the rest of the loop was not. Top of the fire tower is rotting so you cant climb it. I recommend going from the lake to bare rock and back. Worth a trip if its not far from you, but there's much better trails in Harriman state park

Great hike with decent incline Go right at the loop to avoid going down the boulders. Mostly in the woods. Definitely go see the lookout. It's the only view of the water.

Nice trail. Great view of the lake down below. Good cardio.

9.1 miles and 1900 feet according to my Samsung Health app, including a short walk on the mining history trail. mostly fairly easy in terms of elevation. Go counterclockwise so you can go up the rock scramble leading to the fire tower. There were only a few others on this trail on a cloudy Saturday afternoon.

Out and back, had a great time! Not a difficult trail at all, left Queens at around 11 and did the hike with plenty of time before sundown, of course this was in in August.
Also, really cool to come across hikers doing the AT. They have an aura around them, and even when they're warning you about snakes you don't want to stop them for too long. It's clear they had done a lot of miles that day, with more ahead of them, it's written on the grime on their face.
Finally, there is an ice cream shop right by the start, it's delicious. Bellvale creamery I think it's called.

Good hike overall, some cool old relics. Heads up, I did encounter a black bear. Easily scared him away.

Very easy Trail. Went to the left first...pretty views at end. Went to the right and got about 3/4 miles in and there were bears so we bolted lol. Would like to go back to try it again.

Great hike with lots to see - beautiful Visitor Center, Iron mining historic district (pickup brochure at Visitor Center), vista over Greenwood Lake and Fire Tower to climb. Also has a fun scramble just before the Fire Tower up the side of the rocky hill. Hike took about 5 hours including stops.

We went South accidentally so wrong side to get a view. We'll do the north side next time. (Cross the road after parking )

We took the shortline bus from PABT to Tuxedo and got off at Arden Valley Road. We hiked around 11-12 miles till 17A, and then stopped by the Bellvale Farms Creamery for their world-famous ice cream. On return, we took NJ transit bus 197 back to PABT. The hike was very challenging.

We did this trail a little different then the map. We parked in a boat basin in Greenwood lake and took uber to the entrance of the applachian trail in Warwick NY. We then took the trail about 6 miles along the applachian trail that went along a ridge line. When we reach the border of NY/NJ (yes it's spray painted on a rock) we took the blue trail down to the boat basin and back to the vehicle. It was definitely fun and not terribly difficult, see my map if you want to try it.

We made a right at the start of the applachian trail, did about 3 1/2 miles then turned and headed back. It wasn't a particularly difficult hike but with the snow on the ground you had to be careful. Will definitely come back in the Spring or Summer and do it again.

Very confusing. We never made it to the view.

This was a fun trail. It didn't have too many steep inclines or declines but you got a good workout. It was beautiful forested areas with a very small waterfall. One decent peak as well.

It's ok very variable terrain this day was too hot and humid so getting to the water falls was very refreshing u really enjoy it

Great hike, some nice challenging rocky portion in the mix. Highly recommended.

Way more rocky and rigorous than anticipated! Much more difficult than the NJ portions a bit south, but a ton of fun. Some rock scrambles and harder-to-follow trails, but if you keep your eyes open you'll be just fine.
