This would have been a nice hike except for two major issues. The Long Path trail was blocked by scores of huge trees fallen across the trail.....big ones. It made the going slow, and a little dangerous at times. It looked like a tornado had come through there. Consider skipping the AT Long Path northern outcropping as it is easy just to cut across.
The second problem was the Arden Surebridge trail section southwest of Island Pond. It was completely flooded out as far as the eye could see with no alternative trail. A half mile of bushwhacking south of the tail, hugging the high ground, was required to get around the water. Make sure these issues are resolved before endeavoring to take this hike.

Nice hike.. be careful with the many different trails nearby, the visitor center told us it’s easy to go off the trail route onto another trail. The day we went it was overcast. And there were many little flys at the fire tower and in the backwoods. So bring bug spray. The view was nice on the trail to the fire tower at a spot. The trail was easy. Just loose rocks at some spots. We hiked it on May 6th 2018. At the fire tower next to the ranger cabin is a mailbox, don’t forget to write in the logbook! It was a nice time!

First hike for season to become acclimated. good workout on legs. No rock scrambles. Doable with sneakers but I am getting hiking boots for next time. prolly wont do this trail again for 2018 (5/5/2018 did it). Will try to tackle something a little harder.

Beautiful run, fairly technical in sections. Quite a lot of downed trees across the trail,

My watch recorded around 9.5 miles for the total distance

Will do this again

Loved this hike! Spotted Bear tracks which was neat

Great 8 mile hike. Varied terrain, nice views at the top. At some points - it was difficult to find the trail markers. This trail loop was accurately rated as moderate. Looking forward to hiking it again.

Awesome trails!

Had an amazing time! My friend and I both took out dogs for a hike and we all had a blast. There were a few spots where it was hard to pass due to downed trees and flooded trail(we had very wet feet by the end) but we had a great time. Not too hard but hard enough to make it worth it. And we had a lovely picnic by the lake as we attempted to dry out our socks and shoes.

One to avoid when snowy but nice views and varied terrain. Hiked march, the week after a snow storm. Took 4hrs20 (no stops). Phones measured at 8.5miles. Solidly uphill for first hour. Rocky ground + snow throughout made difficult. Lower trails were waterlogged due to melting snow. Many fallen trees on section of long path (green) adjacent to marsh made impassable but possible to skirt around higher up bank.

Very easy trail, we did it partially due to snow. We'll come back in spring and summer also for the other trails, there are many in the area.

24 inches of snow made this a challenging hike but was fun and not to long to do. With a firetower at the top with some ok views I would recommend

Nice in the winter, only saw a few folks the whole day.

Not very strenuous. Fairly flat through most sections. Great views off the lake.

Nice overnight spike camp experience

Great hike - strenuous - there was a lot of snow and ice when I went - be prepared and careful treading through ice. We came to a point at the end of the hike where it was a straight path of frozen water and had to maneuver very carefully to finish. Amazing visuals and changes in scenery.

Great trail, not far from NYC. Beautiful Island Pond is en route.

We were told now it’s hunting season, better avoid this trail, instead, we took the suggestion and hiked on bare rock ramble loop trail, similar distance as this one, it’s a good hike . You can get a map from visitor center, the trails are well marked.

Love this hike. The history of Claudius Smith and his gang is always fascinating to me. My dad always took me as a kid and we still go and enjoy ourselves. Love the views. We usually do the blue disc trail to the TMI trail to the white trail back so we can check out the Dutch Dr. shelter. From the shelter you can see below the field where the dutch doctor would grow his medicinal herbs. I almost always find fossils on this hike.

Very nice trail with a lovely visitor center at the start. . Beautiful trees and views of the lake. Mostly flat and not very challenging.

Did the loop clockwise in 5 steady hours. Red to orange to blue back to red. Great Greenwood overlook at orange NW corner. Flushed an eagle on the final approach Splendid Sterling overlook from the east ridge blues. Spooked deer in the valley below the fire tower a bit before the beaver pond.

great trail, absolutely beautiful and very well maintained.

Well marked, clean and clear and bonus of free parking by the preserve. Only did three miles this time but will be returning to go further.
