One of my favorite close-to-home moderate hikes! Decent work out. Hard enough to wear out two big dogs and several middle school boys, but not so difficult that they can't complete or enjoy the hike. Great variety of scenery including a section that was once an American chestnut forest but has succumbed to chestnut blight over a century ago (trees still sprout but apparently succumb to the blight at about 20 feet of growth), an elevated pass-by of Heinlein Pond, and a lovely, expansive view of farmland in the valley from the ridge on Minisink Trail. I tend to hike the trail reverse of the recommended direction. Starting on the Minisink trail is more of a workout as it climbs fairly quickly (tires the dogs out), then I can relax returning on the relatively level Lenape Trail. Great hike!
