Nice, easy hike! Fire tower is very well maintained and there is a nice overlook before you reach the tower with a picnic table.

Really nice trail
Scenery along the trail was just lovely
GPS sent us out of the way but we eventually found it
I would do it again if asked
So nice there

Very easy hike to get in if you want a short one.

Easy trail. No Cathedral Rock sign but follow the Latham Trail signs (Trail 10) from the Ranger School. The sign-in book is in the fire tower. On the trail, you come to a fork. Wasn’t sure which way to go but went left and was successful.

Hiked on 6/30/18. Nice little hike, but I got stung by a wasp halfway up the tower so keep an eye out!

Hiked on 5/5/2018. Road to trail was closed due to power lines down from storm. Had to walk 2 miles to reach the “10” trail that leads to Latham Trail for Cathedral Rock. Only about a mile long hike once on the trail. Part of SUNY ESF Ranger school. Very forestry and some cool cliffs and lightly trafficked. Once at the summit views were beautiful over looking 5 ponds wilderness. Fire tower was open!

Limited views from the fire tower. You can actually drive to the tower if you’re lazy, or like me, dumb enough to keep driving on the dirt roads because you’re lost lmao. I will be returning to complete the actual trail lol.

Parking lot is further back from where it sends you keep driving until you see a parking lot on your left. Trail starts from the dirt road at beginning of parking lot. Follow decals labeled 10 and you will have no trouble. Nice easy walk until you find the Sign that says “Latham Trail enjoy your hike....” this is where you begin. Easy hike for beginners and families. Have Fun and Leave no trace.

Excellent trail, very well maintained with historical displays at the top. Tower is completely restored. Follow Latham Trail or Ranger Trail 10 to reach the top.

Was a really easy hike. Note that there's a bit of a false summit with some signs warning not to get too close to the edge. After this point, although the trail on the ground is clearly visible, I felt like a trail marker was missing. The summit is only two minutes or so past the false summit, so continue further. On the way back, I took a separate, manicured path that was really nice. Ended up coming out near the basketball courts.

Easy hike but worth it

on Cathedral Rock

4/9/17~57, sunny, nice breezes, clear skies. 2.3 round trip. Hardly any snow left on the trail. Followed the #10 markers, once we got close to the top it was confusing which way to go. Took a left at the rock (you'll see the #10 marker) from the parking area, we followed a dirt road a little ways, entrance on your right. You might be able to enter the trail right from the parking area as I did see some trails. You'll come to 2-3 roads (intersections) stay straight to cross over them. Saw one other couple, no wildlife. Tower #9 completed!!

Crazy easy. Thought we would be hiking for a bit more and then like most firetowers BAM, just there kind of hiding. Google maps are horrible sometimes though. The road you are looking for is right at the main entrance of the Ranger School. The road is actually labeled County Route 61. Turn onto and then take a slight left, then another left. A large wooden sign will appear on the left and underneath it a bit are two smaller attached signs that indicate a firetower trail ahead. Park in parking lot next to field. Cant miss it at that point. Trailhead visible from beginning on right of said parking lot. Super easy hike, follow the "10" markers carefully. Hour and a half in and out with plenty of stops to enjoy the sights and sounds.

It's a really easy hike, it climbs a bit in elevation in the last tenth of a mile, but nothing too extreme. The fire tower views are far from spectacular. One of the least climactic views out of the fire tower challenge hikes I've done thus far.
It's not horrible, but don't expect to be amazed.

Great hike very easy. Ok view but was hazy and humid. Sure it would be better in fall.

Very easy trail. Well marked. Follow the #10 trail signs to the top and make sure to sign the book in the fire tower. Ok views from the top but worth the trip.

Parking was confusing at first but keep going and follow the signs. There's a small baseball field you can park in the lot next to it. Go up the dirt road a little bit and then follow the signs for the tower trail all marked with 10's. The hike is worth the view from the top of the tower. Would recommend.

There's nothing on the campus giving you direction to the tower. The trail crosses jeep trails and isn't hard to transverse at all. It's a short quick walk to the tower. The views of Cranberry Lake were nice. There's picnic tables close to the tower if you choose to bring food with you and you want a place to eat. The trail had no really good views.

This is an incredibly easy "climb" (the quotes are there because, honestly, there's very little climbing involved), presuming you can find the trail. My first trip there resulted in me wandering around the Ranger School campus (where the tower/ Cathedral Rock is located) with little direction. The Fire Tower book was little help, and the staff on campus really weren't sure exactly how one would find the fire tower. After wandering various Jeep trails for an hour, I gave up. When I returned the 2nd time, I returned with better directions from a friend and found the trail (#10) marked "Latham Fire Tower Trail." Follow that all the way up, and you will get to the fire tower. The tower is nice, with a moderately nice view of Cranberry Lake, but nothing to write home about. The good news is that there is very little "hiking" involved or elevation gain, so this is a great one for folks of all skill levels to get out there and experience a fire tower!
