Love it! Watch out for ticks!

easy hike, beautiful view of conecticut

The park is an easy hike and affords views in the woods and along the Long Island Sound beach. There are a couple of main trails. Know that some people don’t follow the rules about dogs on a leash, so if you’re intimidated by dogs, that could be an issue. Parking is also tight. But it’s pretty in all Seasons.

Be careful - tons of bugs (mid august)! We wore heavy duty bug spray and still had to turn around. What we saw was pretty, but we barely got started before we were under siege.

Nice, shaded walk. Easy. Very green with tons of birds. The bugs were horrible!

Part of the trail is along the sound beach, and the sand can be difficult to walk in. The beach is absolutely beautiful!

This trail is nice to just stretch your legs. Interesting to see the views of Arshamomaque Pond. Combined with its narrow western arm named Long Creek and its outlet to Southold Bay, Arshamomaque Pond is the largest of the North Fork's tidal ponds. The names Arshamomaque Pond, Mill Creek, as well as Hashamomuck Pond, are all used interchangeably today.

During the wet times of the spring and summer, the mosquitoes can get pretty annoying - bring repellant or a netted hat.

This is a fantastic trail - you hike up a dune which overlooks the Long Island Sound - what could be better?! Along the trail, the sweet pepperbush blooms in the summer and the American witch hazel shrubs in the late fall. The park is home to a great example of a maritime freshwater interdunal swale too.
